Great news! 2 medical dramas are coming our way next week. And for drama fans who have enjoyed the extremely thrilling drama “Doctor Prisoner” (like me,) this could mean we are in for a wholesome medical ride from Wednesdays to Saturdays!
Doctor Detective (Starting on July 17, 2019)
Every Wednesday and Thursday.
AIRING AFTER: My Absolute Boyfriend.
MAIN CAST: Park Jin-Hee, Bong Tae-Gyu, Lee Ki-Woo.
PLOT: Do Joong-Eun (Park Jin-Hee), an industrial health doctor, partners with Doctor Heo Min-Ki (Bong Tae-Gyu) to uncover the truth related to industrial accidents and work-related accidents.
The drama is making an attempt to take a deeper look into work-related accidents. Characters Do Joong-Eun and Heo Min-Ki will be digging into these to see if they are more than just accidents–it’s where profits, convenience, and money come into place.
We don’t know if the story is going to be really intriguing just by looking at the synopsis, but some of us have seen Bong Tae-Gyu in the popular drama “Return,” where he plays as an infuriating psychopathic villain role, Kim Hak-Beom. It’s going to be really interesting to see Bong Tae-Gyu transforming into someone who fights for justice!
“Special Labor Inspector, Mr. Jo” is a similar drama that has just ended recently. It’s a hilarious drama where the main lead does everything he can to fight for justice too.

Doctor John (Starting on July 19, 2019)
Every Friday and Saturday.
AIRING AFTER: The Nokdu Flower.
MAIN CAST: Ji Sung, Lee Se-Young, Lee Kyu-Hyung.
PLOT: Cha Yo-Han (Ji Sung) and Kang Shi-Young (Lee Se-Young) are doctors who specialize in pain management. Patients who suffer from physical pain go to them and they try to find out what is the cause of it.
The doctors in “Doctor John” don’t do their best to merely save lives, but instead, focus more on the quality of life of their patients. These doctors will decide if they should end the pain by letting them pass on peacefully, or continue to let their patients be tormented by the pain.
We have seen dramas with ER doctors, cardiologists, oncologists all too often, but there aren’t many dramas that focus on the quality of life of patients. To add, Ji Sung has done a few dramas that are related to doctors so far–“New Heart,” and the really popular drama, “Kill Me Heal Me.” It’s going to be interesting to see him play another doctor role but with a different perspective!

Both dramas present their unique take on doctors–doctors are no longer people who just “save lives,” they are capable of using their medical knowledge to do much more. On that aspect, it seems similar to “Doctor Prisoner” where the doctors use their medical knowledge to help prisoners get out of prison.
