Into The Ring

Began On: July, 1

If the American political series “Scandal” is a thriller filled with crazy plot twists, the new Korean political series “Into The Ring” would be more relaxing and comedic. Both have endearing and charismatic female leads in their own ways. Oliver Pope is a shrewd lady who was White House’s fixer before she opened her own crisis-management firm. On the other hand, Koo Se-Ra (Played by Nana), the female lead of “Into The Ring” starts with nothing to her name. She is a hard worker who gets fired too quickly because she couldn’t stand injustices. At the same time, there’s something intriguing about her character.

Similar to Oliver Pope, Se-Ra is also the “fixer” of her district, Mawon-gu, she’s known to be nosy and files countless civil complaints online to get problems faced in her district resolved. The reason she wants to get into politics as a district representative, however, isn’t purely because she wants to better the lives of the citizens in her district. The 29-year-old is enticed by the 50,000 won annual salary while working only 90 days in a year. This time, she aims to get herself elected and stay elected.

She Knows Everything

Begins On: July, 8

An apartment complex undergoes reconstruction, and in the midst of it, mysterious cases arise. So far, all we can tell is that this drama is going to be filled with suspense that will possibly lead from one case to another. Could it be as intriguing as the UK series “Broadchurch“? “Broadchurch” begins with the body of an 11-year-old boy found on the beach. The small, coastal town named Broadchurch turns out to be filled with murky secrets beneath its cover. The investigation brings light to the darkest elements of human nature, and when one thing led to the other, everyone seems equally suspicious. We know that something, too, fishy is going on in “She Knows Everything.” And similarly, the drama might start off with a mysterious murder case.

Lee Goong Bok (Played by Kang Sung-Yeon)was known as Miss Lee when she was still an estate agent 17 years ago. She’s now a real estate expert who owns an apartment in Seoul and a shopping district. However, the president of Goong Real Estates has a son named Seo Tae-Hwa (Played by Kim Do-Wan), and is giving her a hard time. The next day after confessing and getting rejected by his childhood friend Yang Su-Jin (Played by Park Shin-Ah), she was found dead. Regardless of the truth, Miss Lee attempts to cover up Su-Jin’s death so that the redevelopment of Goong Apartments can be approved.

My Wonderful Life

Last year, we have a Korean dark comedy-thriller that struck a chord with Western audiences, “Parasite.” This masterpiece features a huge contrast between the poor and the rich. The Kim family lives in a lowly semi-basement apartment while the Park family lives in a huge apartment with a lawn outside.

In “My Wonderful Life,” things are on the brighter tone as compared to the dark comedy. Park Bok-Hee (Played by Sim Yi-Young) lives her entire life in poverty as a housewife. She’s married and has a son and a daughter. Her husband demands a divorce after committing adultery. One day, she finds out that her life is switched with someone else–the daughter of the president of Shinsang Group, Ko Sang-Ah (Played by Jin Ye-Sol).
