“KBS News9” invited a very special guest on September 9–BTS!
BTS joined the evening news program with main anchor Lee So-Jung to talk about their recent success of their hit song “Dynamite.” The song took the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for two consecutive weeks since its release. Topping the charts already made them the first South Korean group to score No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in history, but just a few days ago, they hit another milestone by staying on top for two weeks. Back in July, the boy band also broke three more Guinness World Records with this new single.
With so many records broken and milestones reached after the release of “Dynamite,” BTS attempted to share why the song was such a success during the KBS News9 interview.
Suga said, “The situation isn’t good in Korea and overseas. So we came up with this song; we wanted to do what we were good at, what we were able to do, in order to provide strength for our fans.” He added, “Fortunately, our fans loved the song, I believe that is what brought about this amazing result.”
When they were asked what their secret was to have the whole world relate to them so well this time, RM answered, “The song ‘Dynamite’ was probably more approachable because it broke down the language barrier.” He went on by saying, “Disco-pop is a familiar genre even for the older generation.” The leader of the band also talked about how the song provided hope and comfort through the simple and upbeat song. He added, “We were able to reach many people and turn them into fans through the truths we conveyed.”
The group went on to share about days where they would go hungry when they were just starting out. Jin shared, “We’d have rotten bananas that attracted lots of fruit flies, and we had to suck them up with a vacuum cleaner. There were times we ate only chicken breasts too.” He elaborated, “Back then, there was a limit to what we could eat because we weren’t earning much. But we can eat whatever we want now. We can have two slices of steak if we want.”
BTS was asked to create a challenge unique to BTS. In which, V said, “This is my personal opinion. There are so many things that we can’t do because of COVID-19. You could write down or express it in some way, the very first thing that you want to do after COVID-19 is completely over.” V names it “The Dream Challenge.”
The boy band was also asked about their upcoming album, and Jimin said, “There are songs as good as ‘Dynamite,’ or even better. Please look forward to it.”
Anchor Lee went on to ask, “Everything that Suga has said has come true. Is your next goal the Grammys?” Suga replied, “I’d personally like to be nominated. You can perform a song there once you’re nominated. I don’t know if I can say this, but I hope that we can win a Grammy.”
