We’re down to the last month of the year which means that a new set of K-pop idols and K-drama actors are set to enlist in the military soon.

In South Korea, every able-bodied man is required to serve in the military by the age of 28. This means those born in 1995 and 1996 are preparing for their enlistment next year. While there are rare exceptions for Korean citizens excelling in sports or arts on an international level, such exemptions are very rare for actors and idols.

Upcoming Enlistments of Korean Celebrities

Male celebrities born in 1994 will soon begin their mandatory military service, followed by those born in 1995-1996. This service is mandatory for all able-bodied male citizens in South Korea, to be completed before turning 28.

This year, several prominent stars like Nam Joo Hyuk (“Remember“), GOT7’s Jinyoung (“Dream High 2“), Ong Seong Wu, BTS members J-Hope and Suga, EXO’s Kai, Lee Do Hyun (“Youth of May“), Kim Min Gue (“Perfume“), and Kim Min Jae (“Do You Like Brahms?“) have already enlisted. Their discharge is anticipated by late 2024 or early 2025.

BTS RM, V, Jimin, Jungkook

BIGHIT Music recently announced that BTS members RM, V, Jimin, and Jungkook are preparing to enlist in the military. Following Jin, J-Hope, and Suga, Jungkook will enlist in December, while the remaining three members will enlist next year. This brings mixed emotions as it will be a sad sight to see all members in the military, yet it signifies the group’s potential return to collective activities in 2025.

BTS, known for their stellar performances and heartfelt songs, gained widespread recognition with chart-topping albums and numerous awards at the Billboard Music Awards and American Music Awards. In their early days, they exhibited charm and talent in shows like “Rookie King: Channel BTS” and “Idol King of Cooking,” which showed how they deserve all the fame and recognition they have.

Song Kang

The man who has both the looks and talent, Song Kang, is expected to enlist soon since he’s a ’94 liner. Song Kang has been working non-stop ever since his debut in 2017. Now a rising star, Song Kang has showcased his talent and range in popular dramas like “Navillera” and “Sweet Home.” Additionally, he demonstrated his hosting skills as an MC on the K-pop music program “SBS Inkigayo,” alongside SEVENTEEN’s Mingyu and DIA’s Chaeyeon.

EXO Sehun

EXO’s Sehun, born in 1994 like Kai, is yet to begin his military service. Following the discharge of Suho, Xiumin, D.O., and Chen, it’s anticipated that Sehun will soon enlist. Among the other EXO members, Baekhyun, Chanyeol, and Kai are currently serving in the military. EXO, renowned for their exceptional vocals, synchronized choreography, and magnetic stage presence, recently showcased their chemistry in the reality show “EXO’s Travel the World On a Ladder – Kaohsiung and “EXO’s Travel the World on a Ladder in Namhae.”

SEVENTEEN S.Coups and Jeonghan

SEVENTEEN’s oldest members, S.Coups and Jeonghan, both ’95 liners, are anticipated to enlist in the military soon. Since their debut in 2015, SEVENTEEN has carved a successful path, known for their self-produced music that sets them apart. Recently making a comeback for ‘God of Music’, SEVENTEEN showcased their talent on popular music programs like “Show! Music Core” and “Music Bank K-Chart.”

NCT Taeil and Taeyong

Recently, NCT 127’s concert stirred emotions as it might mark their final group performance before members start enlisting. Taeil and Taeyong, born in ’94 and ’95, respectively, will have to enlist soon. NCT, known for its unique concept of multiple sub-units and diverse music styles, showcased their friendship and adventures in reality shows such as “NCT LIFE in Gapyeong” and “NCT LIFE in Osaka.

Hwang Min Hyun

Idol-turned-actor Hwang Min Hyun is also gearing up for enlistment. Originally a member of NU’EST, Minhyun’s vocal talent and visuals made him stand out. After his participation in the project group Wanna One, he gained global recognition. Focusing on his acting career, he recently starred alongside Kim So Hyun in a fantasy rom-com.

While it may be saddening to see our favorite artists preparing for enlistment, we still have time to show our support for them. Let’s catch up on their shows while we await their enlistments!
