In case you haven’t heard, “HYEMILEEYECHAEPA” is a hilarious new reality show where six women are thrown into a house together. Sound familiar? I promise you it’s not because the house is completely empty! And in the middle of the mountains. To survive, cast members Lee Hye Ri, Miyeon, Lee Jung Lee, Choi Ye Na, Kim Chae Won, and Patricia Thona Yiombi must complete missions to get supplies like food, appliances, and furniture for the house.
The show’s a lot of fun, and it’s cool seeing members from past and present girls groups like (G)I-DLE, IZ*ONE, Girl’s Day and LE SSERAFIM interact. We’ve even got a choreographer and TV personality in the house.
So far, the cast members have had great chemistry and even better comedic timing. Episode six is no different.
Guessing Album Covers
The episode kicks off with the women guessing the covers of singles, EPs, and albums. If they guess correctly, they get cash points to buy supplies from a little touchscreen in the house. If they don’t, they lose cash points.
Hye Ri can’t guess the cover for “Antifragile” by LE SSERAFIM even though Chae Won, a member of the group is right there! Everyone laughs at her expense and Chae Won pouts. Karma ends up coming for Chae Won though, because she doesn’t guess the “Expectation” album cover by Girl’s Day later on. She still ends up being one of the better players along with choreographer Lee Jung Lee.
Meanwhile, poor Patricia can’t catch a break. She often guesses the correct cover when it’s not her turn.
The game was really chaotic and I loved seeing them do each other’s dances. When it ended, they used their cash points to get kal-guksu, kimchi, drinks, rubber gloves, bedding, and a speaker.
Morning Quest: Group Unity
In the morning, they play another game called “Group Unity.” The women have to go outside in matching white sweatsuits and stand next to each other in a straight line. Then they have to toss cups filled with water to each other without spilling most of it. The goal is to pour the remaining water into a tank and fill it above the line drawn on it. As usual, they”ll get cash points if they succeed and lose them if they don’t.
This was truly the highlight of the episode.
The expressions the women were making as they tossed their glasses to the next person while getting splashed in the face were priceless! Particularly Lee Jung Lee and Patricia. I certainly wouldn’t be coordinated enough to do it, but they work well together and ended up filling the tank over the line for all four rounds! They made it look easy, but it turns out even the staff couldn’t do it when they tested it previously.
Hye Ri, Miyeon, Jung Lee, Ye Na, Chae Won, and Patricia win 8,000 cash points (the most they’ve ever won) and spend it on luxuries like cereal, fruit, a toaster and a rice cooker. They also get Jenga which will come into play at the end of the episode.
Individual Quests
As the women finish up breakfast and relax, they take turns going back outside to complete individual quests. Individual quests are short games a person can play to win more cash points. They include but are not limited to: flipping a water bottle, blowing a tissue into the air and trying to catch it with chopsticks, and karaoke.
Jung Lee was previously good at the tissue/chopstick game, but now the staff has switched the chopsticks with a bigger, clunkier set, she watches her tissue flutter to the ground. Miyeon can’t manage to flip the water bottle and Patricia doesn’t complete her quest either.
Eventually, Hye Ri wins a round of the tissue/chopstick game and Ye Na, Chae Won, and Patricia win a karaoke challenge.
Jenga
The episode ends with everyone playing Jenga to decide who has to wash the dishes from breakfast. Each Jenga block has a command on it like “Take a selfie that only you look cute in” and “Purchase one item of your choice”. Patricia gets the latter, buys pork, and cooks it for the group. However, moments later she knocks over the Jenga tower, so she has to do the dishes even though she just cooked for everyone.
This episode was so chaotic and fun! I can’t wait to see what happens next since Patricia’s brother Jonathan will appear as a guest and it looks like a lot of cash points will be lost.
When it comes to reality shows, the premise is important, but so is the cast’s chemistry. “HYEMILEEYECHAEPA” is great because you can tell the women are genuinely having fun with each other and becoming friends. It’s like an endless sleepover that everyone’s invited to. If you’d like to join, stream episodes one through six of “HYEMILEEYECHAEPA” and get ready for new episodes every Sunday on KOCOWA+.
