One thing with K-Dramas is they will always offer you something you haven’t seen before, and that’s my favorite thing about it! The human x supernatural being trope is one I never thought I’d love, but after watching a few fantasy K-Dramas, I realized how much I enjoy it!

I’m sure you’re going to enjoy these couples, which I’m introducing because there’s something unique about their chemistry that makes them so unforgettable.

Gumiho x Humans

I still recall not knowing what the word “gumiho” meant when I first started watching Korean dramas. It has now become a common term among viewers of K-Dramas. If you’re unfamiliar with it, allow me to fill you in. Basically, the term gumiho means it is a legendary creature in Korean folklore which means nine-tailed fox. It is an immortal creature that eats the human heart and liver. It is also said to have a power source, which is its own marble bead inside its own body – and it gains power from the energy that it absorbs from humans.

That’s where the plot of “My Girlfriend is a Gumiho” came from! It’s safe to assume that most of us have seen that classic drama starring Shin Min A and Lee Seung Gi. Additionally, other popular Korean dramas feature gumiho characters, such as Lee Dong Wook’s “The Tale of the Nine-Tailed,” Jang Ki Yong’s “My Roommate Is a Gumiho,” and Lee Seung Gi’s “Kangchi, The Beginning“!

Angel x Human

The couple from “Angel’s Last Mission: Love” will always have a special place in my heart. Kim Myung Soo plays the upbeat and carefree angel who gets caught up with Shin Hae Sun’s harsh ballerina in this romantic comedy fantasy drama. It’s very interesting to watch how these two, who seem to come from different ends of the spectrum, managed to find common ground and fall in love. Also, I love hearing them bicker with each other. I mean, it’s hilarious!

Vampire x Human

A lot of us would love to see a new vampire K-Drama soon, yet there are already plenty of classics in the genre. Having lost his family and best friend, Lee Joon Gi’s character in “The Scholar Who Walks the Night” becomes a furious vampire out for revenge. There he encounters the always-upbeat and hospitable woman, who goes around dressed as a man.

If you want a vampire K-Drama set in the present time, I got you! Yeo Jin Goo and Seolhyun’s “Orange Marmalade” features a high school romance between an outcast vampire and the most popular boy in school! The Korean drama “Blood,” starring Ahn Jaehyun and Ji Jin Hee, is also worth checking out because of the unique blend of vampires and medicine.

Animals x Human

This one is controversial to some, but when I watched “Welcome,” starring Kim Myung Soo and Shin Ye Eun, it was a really fun and fluffy K-Drama. Check out Kim Myung Soo’s transformation into a cat who longs to be human and his efforts to remain at Shin Ye Eun’s side in this feel-good drama.

Alien x Human

Everyone should make it a point to see this timeless K-Drama at least once in their lives. “My Love From The Star,” starring THE Jun Ji Hyun and Kim Soo Hyun, is a romantic comedy about a snobbish top actress who falls in love with an alien about to leave Earth. Their chemistry is one of the best I’ve witnessed, but I feel like that goes without saying.

Mermaid x Human

I know most of us have watched this iconic K-Drama of 2016, and we all enjoyed the mermaid x human pairing of “The Legend Of The Blue Sea!” Many people were charmed by Jun Ji Hyun as the mermaid Shim Cheong, who was both hilarious and naïve, and Lee Min Ho, who played a con artist. Their love story, which spans a hundred years, makes their story even better!

Time Traveler x Human

I know this one’s not a supernatural being compared to others, BUT time traveling is still a huge thing! In “Rooftop Prince,” The romantic comedy fantasy drama features a Joseon Crown Prince who finds himself time traveling 300 years into the future and meets an optimistic woman who’s living on a rooftop!

Dr. Jin,” which stars Song Seung Heon and Park Min Young, is the opposite! A gifted neurosurgeon mysteriously travels back 150 years in time to the year 1860! There, he encounters a young noblewoman who resembles his comatose girlfriend all too closely.

Blade Man x Human

The man with the blade? I know a lot of us are unfamiliar with this, but the K-Drama “Blade Man,” which stars Lee Dong Wook and Shin Se Kyung, is about a wealthy man with a prickly demeanor who develops a supernatural ability. His anger and mental pain manifest as knives sprouting from his body. It’s really something we haven’t seen before!

Goblin x Human

Just by seeing the title, you will know which drama I’m talking about! Just like gumiho, the goblin is also a legendary creature from Korean mythology and folklore. They are nature deities or spirits possessing extraordinary powers and abilities that are used to interact with humans, at times playing tricks on them and at times helping them.

Goblin’s whole story hinges on this relationship, and the drama also contains another supernatural entity x human: a romance between a grim reaper and a human.

See? K-Dramas always offers us something new to the table, which is why I really love watching and discovering new shows! I hope you have decided which drama you’ll watch next and see you on KOCOWA!
