Happy 10th anniversary to one of the most highly talked about historical K-Dramas of all time, “The Moon Embracing the Sun!” I cannot believe it has been ten years since its first premiere. Looking here and there, people are still talking about this K-Drama on blogs and on social media, which means that this K-Drama has charms that we, as K-Drama lovers, cannot just let go! This drama aired on January 4th, 2012, and had its highest viewership ratings at 46%, making everyone’s winter cozy and memorable with its fantastical, historical drama storyline.
In celebration of “The Moon Embracing the Sun” ten year anniversary, let’s go over the cast and characters that made this drama into a huge success.
“The Moon Embracing the Sun” starred four main characters who are currently very active in their acting career. I was very happy to see Yeo Jin Goo, Kim You Jung, and Kim So Hyun who have grown so much since this drama.
This drama is an epic 20 episode love story between a King and a female shaman that is worth checking out if you are looking for something to keep you warm this winter!
King Hwon (Kim Soo Hyun)
Lee Hwon is the second son of King Seonjo. This role was played both by Yeon Jin Goo when he was young and then by Kim Soo Hyun. Lee Hwon is the crown prince of Joseon and later becomes king. He falls in love with Heo Yeon Woo, who later gets killed mysteriously (someone actually uses shamanism to get her killed in the story). However he cannot let go of his love toward Yeon Woo and continues looking for her.
Heo Yeon Woo/ Wol (Han Ga In)
Heo Yeon Woo was played both by Kim You Jung when she was young and then by Han Ga In. Kim You Jung was only 13 years old when she played this character. Heo Yeon Woo was the daughter of a renowned Joseon family and grew up as an intelligent woman. She was chosen to be Crown Princess, but due to jealousy, Yeon Woo gets killed. However, she didn’t die; she was actually hiding somewhere. She changes her identity to “Moo Nyeo,” which is considered the lowest class in the Joseon Dynasty.
Prince Yang Myung (Jung Il Woo)
Prince Yang Myung has a very relaxed personality and is the number one successor to the throne. There are several battles between the forces to kill his younger brother and make Yang Myung the king. Prince Yang Myung also falls in love with Yeon Woo.
