“Beauty and Mr. Romantic" Episodes 39 & 40 Recap

Here are the highlights of episodes 39 & 40 of “Beauty and Mr. Romantic”.

Ji Young collapses in the woods, and Pil Seung rushes her to the hospital. When Ji Young wakes up, she recovers all her past memories, including those that haunted her and ultimately led to her suicide attempt.
Ji Young recalls how Mi Ja mistreated her and exploited her societal reputation to borrow money for personal gain. She pretends not to have regained her memories to avoid detection and decides to move out, taking only her grandmother with her.

Ma Ri finally confesses her feelings to Do Jun and asks him out. Do Jun has mixed feelings, but they are mutual.

Ji Young confides only in Do Jun about her regained memories and apologizes for her previous actions, including her suicide attempt and leaving him abroad. Do Jun feels melancholic yet ecstatic to have Do Ra back.
Pil Seung senses that something is different about Ji Young and suspects she has regained her memories as Do Ra, though she keeps this hidden from him.
Mi Ja discovers that Ji Young and her grandmother have rented a decent apartment and is furious that Ji Young left without notice. Mi Ja asks to live with them, or have Ji Young let her manage the money Ji Young earns as an actress. Ji Young, appalled by Mi Ja’s unchanged behavior, kicks her out.

Despite the fact that Ji Young’s grandmother is not her biological relative, her grandmother’s loving treatment and inheritance are far superior to her biological mother Mi Ja. Mi Ja finds it odd that Ji Young suddenly has so much money, and Jin Dan is confused as to as to why Ji Young is paying the debt instead of Mi Ja, who originally borrowed it.

Jin Taek is hospitalized after a car accident. Reflecting on the possibility of Ma Ri being left alone if he and Soo Yeon were gone, Jin Taek tells Soo Yeon he is considering Pil Seung as a potential guardian for Ma Ri.
Ji Young pays off the remaining debt to Jin Dan, ending their romantic relationship. Jin Dan is suspicious of how Ji Young could settle such a large amount so quickly and suspects Pil Seung’s involvement.

Pil Seung learns from Ji Young’s grandmother that Ji Young was dating Jin Dan because of the money Mi Ja borrowed from him. Pil Seung is heartbroken and devastated by the realization that Ji Young was unwillingly involved with Jin Dan again.
Jin Taek persuades Soo Yeon that Pil Seung should become part of their family. After careful consideration, Jin Taek believes Pil Seung is the ideal person to care for Ma Ri after they are gone.
Jin Taek announces to his family that he has decided to adopt Pil Seung, ensuring that the APP Group has a successor and that Ma Ri will have a legal guardian. Jin Dan returns home drunk and distraught over the prospect of losing his position to Pil Seung.
Jin Dan’s resentment towards Pil Seung intensifies upon learning that Pil Seung might inherit the APP Group. Sang Gu, Jin Dan’s biological father, also learns this from Ae Gyo and becomes greedily hopeful that his son might take over the company. Ae Gyo suggests that Ma Ri might be causing these developments, leading Sang Gu to consider dangerous actions against either Ma Ri or Pil Seung.
Ji Young’s grandmother, because of her dementia, mistakes Mi Ja for her dead daughter and now is asking Mi Ja to live with her and Ji Young.

Pil Seung continues to express his feelings for Ji Young, but she coldly rejects him. Despite this, Pil Seung remains devoted to Do Ra. As Pil Seung is heading to dinner with Ma Ri, a car deliberately speeds toward Ma Ri, and Pil Seung leaps to protect her. Ji Young, witnessing this, rushes to Pil Seung, who is bleeding on the ground, and pleads with him to wake up, sobbing as she reveals she is Do Ra.

“Beauty and Mr. Romantic” Episode 41 Trailer breakdown:

Pil Seung is severely injured and requires major surgery at the hospital. Sang Gu becomes unusually intrusive, inquiring about Pil Seung’s condition and whether he will survive.

The car involved in the accident was unregistered, and the families learned that someone may have deliberately targeted Pil Seung.
The doctor comes out looking serious and says he’s unsure about Pil Seung’s condition. Ji Young and the family pray hard, hoping he will pull through.
