“Favorite Entertainment” is surprising us again and again with idols we would never imagine singing trot songs! The pilot episode of “Favorite Entertainment” that aired on July 4 and 11 surprised us with VIXX’s Ken, NCT 127, Cravity and ASTRO’s MJ. Without disappointing us, the following episode that aired on July 18 has another stream of idols who are unbelievably good at singing trot songs!
Let’s have a look at these idols…
Stray Kids’ I.N
Stray Kids’ I.N chose a rather old trot song named ‘Camellia Lady’ that was released in 1964 which shocked the judges. Kim Shin-Young remarked, “He must love trot if he knows this song at his age.” His performance received 5 upvotes from the judges, and they talked about liking his clear voice while he was singing. At the end of his performance, Leeteuk asked, “You were born in 2001. How did you come to like trot?” The youngest member of Stray Kids answered, “I used to go to church as a kid. When we had talent shows there, I would always sing trot.”
Jung Yun-Jung complimented him by saying, “I want to give you points at the fact that you chose to sing ‘Camellia Lady’ as it shows how serious you are about singing trot.” Leeteuk quickly added that I.N “is a great fit for a boy trot group, as a group will need its maknae (also known as the youngest member of the group). I think he can be the best maknae.”
When asked to show more of his charms, I.N told them that he has prepared a dance, which was a dance cover of two songs, BTS’ “Boy With Luv” and EXO’s “Love Shot.”
PENTAGON’s Hui
Another PENTAGON member, Hui, sang ‘I Only Know Love’ by Shim Soo-Bong. When he is done, Leeteuk picked up his microphone and said, “When I first heard you sing, I don’t think your voice fits the genre. So I was worried, but as I heard it more, I noticed him playing around with his breathing. I couldn’t help but be drawn in.” Jang Yun-Jung praised Hui for being confident while singing.
Kim Shin-Young then mentioned that he has composed a lot of songs and has many hit songs. She added that she couldn’t believe that he came to this audition. Kim Shin-Young joked, “Did someone force you to be here?” In which, Hui replied, “No, no one. I asked my company to let me come here.” He explained further, “My mother always told me that she always liked my music but she can’t sing along to them. So I decided to come to this audition for my mother.”
The judges then threw him a rather tough question, “If only one PENTAGON member could get in, would you let Yeo One in?” Hui hesitated for a little and said, “I don’t think I can.”
Hui prepared a dance cover of Rain’s ‘Gang,’ but before that, he bashfully revealed, “What I wanted to show you was a beastly and wild image. But it turned out to be cute when I did it.” He added, “Think of it as a small ‘Gang’.”
“Favorite Entertainment” is a music variety show that transforms artists from different fields into producers, and have them create the best dream team. The first producer is the top singer Jang Yun-Jung, who will pick members for her “Favorite Trot Group.” Along with her, comedian Kim Shin-Young and Super Junior’s Leeteuk will be managers of the group to see through its debut.
Which idol do you think is best suited for this new trot boy group? Do you have another idol in mind who would look great in this group?
