It is a beautiful day for the people who gave birth to all of us, raised us as their own, or are always there for us, and we know how they deserve the whole world: our mothers!
In K-Dramas, we usually encounter moms with different personalities and characteristics, but they all have something in common: they always want the best for their children. So this Mother’s Day, I’m going to introduce K-Drama moms from different genres and show how amazing they are as a mother and a person.
The Best Mom
The kind of mom that will always be there no matter what. Just like how Go Eun Sook (Kim Mi Kyung) to her daughter Ma Jin Joo (Jang Na Ra) in the fantasy romance “Go Back Couple.”
It follows the story of an unhappy married couple who miraculously woke up to find themselves as 20-year-old university students. A drama about how we should appreciate every moment in our life. Kim Mi Kyung has played a lot of mother roles, but her portrayal of Jin Joo’s mom left a huge impression in my heart because of their touching relationship.
The Mom Who Will Do Everything
Despite coming from a revenge melodrama, it didn’t stop “The Penthouse” Shim Su Ryeon (Lee Ji Ah) from becoming the best and most affectionate mom to Hye In, Seok Hoon, Seok Kyung, and Seol Ah.
“The Penthouse” is a story about the residents of Hera Palace, a luxury penthouse apartment with 100 floors, who have many secrets and hidden ambitions.
In the drama, we see how Su Ryeon did her best to ensure that all of her children will have a pleasant future even though she’s married to an evil man who only thinks of himself. In all the three seasons of “The Penthouse,” Su Ryeon proved she’s one of the best moms ever.
The Bickering Mom
I know that we all have that mom who loves to talk and bickers A LOT. One great example of a loud K-Drama mom is Kim Ji Hye (Oh Na Ra) in the crime mystery thriller “CHIP-IN.”
“CHIP-IN” centers on finding out who’s the culprit behind the death of a famous painter, and every character in the drama is connected to him, so it’s so interesting to figure out the mystery behind his death!
I also enjoyed how this drama gave birth to two of our favorite mother and daughter duo: Ji Hye and Bitna. Despite being a dysfunctional mother and daughter, the drama showed how the two trust and care for each other!
The Affectionate and Caring Mom
A mother who will do her best to ensure that her daughter is in a good place? That’s one of the characteristics of Cha Yu Ri (Kim Tae Hee) of the fantasy melodrama “Hi Bye, Mama.”
A story of a lingering ghost who died in a tragic accident five years ago. Through a reincarnation project, Cha Yu Ri is given the possibility to become human again if she succeeds in going back to her place as a wife and mother within 49 days.
I swear this drama made me cry a bucket of tears for Cha Yu Ri’s unconditional love and sacrifices for her family. The drama didn’t only portray one amazing mother but two because the husband’s new wife, Min Jung (Go Bo Gyeol), is also an understanding one.
The Mom Who Will Choose You Over Everyone Else
The mother who can give up everything else for her child is Park Sun Young (Kim Hee Sun) of the fantasy sci-fi “Alice.”
Set in a time when time traveling exists, it follows the story of Jin Gyeom as he unravels who’s responsible for his mother’s death. While investigating, he runs into a physics professor who looks exactly like his mother, who died ten years ago.
Park Sun Young is such an amazing mother, and I don’t want to go into more details because I might spoil you, but I assure you that “Alice” is a great sci-fi drama that features time traveling, parallel worlds, and a lot of twists every episode!
The Family Mom
A mom who raised four strong and lovable children is Jang Ok Boon of the family romance “Once Again.”
If you’re looking for a wholesome family drama that shows the importance of love and family, then “Once Again” is for you. It features the story of the Song Family, and you will enjoy every moment of watching it. That’s one thing I loved the most about this heartwarming family drama.
The Hardworking Mom
A romantic comedy series dedicated to hardworking moms is “My Secret, Terrius,” which stars Jung In Sun as the busy single mom Go Ae Rin.
“My Secret, Terrius” is a mystery romantic comedy-drama about a single mother to two children and her handsome neighbor who is a legendary NIS agent! Love how this drama portrayed that women are competent and capable without making them look nosy and annoying!
The Strong Mom
One of the strongest and best moms I know is Dong Baek of the romantic comedy “When The Camellia Blooms,” which stars Kong Hyo Jin as a single mother!
It’s the story of a strong independent single mom who raised her kid in the town of Ongsan and opened a bar named Camellia. Despite facing many challenges and the stigma against single moms, it didn’t stop Dong Baek from becoming the best person and mother.
We all agree that all mothers are the best, and they deserve the appreciation they deserve.
