Here are the highlights of episodes 3 & 4 of “Iron Family”.
“Iron Family” Episodes 3 & 4 Recap:
- Da Rim and Gang Ju finally meet at the convenience store after Gang Ju calls her, with his caller ID loudly announcing “Crosswalk” due to her phone settings. This call, long promised after years apart, triggers strong feelings in Da Rim, who mumbles “prick” under her breath upon hearing the caller ID. To make matters worse, the cashier calls out Gang Ju’s name, reminding him that he left his credit card on the counter, startling him and revealing his presence to Da Rim.
- Gang Ju confesses to Da Rim that he didn’t call back, but he argues it’s not entirely his fault since she hasn’t called either. While Da Rim remains silent, Gang Ju continues to make excuses. Frustrated by her lack of response, he blurts out that he only slept with her that day out of pity, not love. Enraged, Da Rim retaliates by hitting him with her white cane.
- When Da Rim’s cane breaks, Gang Ju escorts her home. Tae Woong, a part-time employee at Da Rim’s dry cleaner, sees her with a strange man and starts questioning Gang Ju. Seeking revenge, Da Rim tells Tae Woong that this stranger has been following her, asking for her phone number, and even forcefully entering his number into her phone despite her refusals. Tae Woong then takes both phones and deletes their numbers from each other. Gang Ju promises never to bother Da Rim again and leaves immediately.
- A few days later, guilty Gang Ju returns to Da Rim’s dry cleaner to return the ruined cane. Da Rim remains standoffish toward him.
- Da Rim’s near-blindness torments her daily. Although a cure exists, it is prohibitively expensive. She keeps this a secret from her family, knowing it would worry them. When her mother learns of the concealed secret, she vows to do everything in her power to help Da Rim afford the necessary treatments. This fills Da Rim with a sense of hope and reliability about regaining her eyesight.
- Gang Ju’s mother, Ji Yeon, comes from a wealthy family. Her father, a notorious loan shark, left her $10 million in cash after his passing, which she kept hidden to avoid taxes. One day, her safe is burglarized, and the cash disappears. The burglars hide the money in a remote area of the mountains, believing it will remain undiscovered. Meanwhile, Da Rim’s grandparents, Gil Rye and Man Deuk, are out hiking but get lost and wander the mountains until sunset. When they give up, they spot two strange men digging a hole and burying a large suitcase.
- Gil Rye and Man Deuk remain silent, initially thinking it might be a dead body. Once they uncover the suitcase, they are shocked to find a large sum of cash. Though they recognize that the money is likely dangerous, the temptation is overwhelming.
- Eventually, Gil Rye and Man Deuk find their way down and reunite with Bong Hee, who has been searching for them all night. After returning home, they cannot stop thinking about the cash they left behind.
