If you don’t know who Park Eun Seok is by now, then you’re probably living under a rock! Well, at least in the world of K-dramas. If he isn’t busy acting,, he’s most likely pouring out his talents on stage as part of the Korean theater scene. After emigrating to the US at a young age, he returned to Korea in his early 20s to pursue acting with the full support of his parents. Unfortunately, he was unable to speak Korean at the time, so he decided to enlist in the military to fully immerse himself in the language, society, and culture. Soon after his military service ended, he was seen acting in dramas like Happy Once Again, The Rebel, and most recently, in his breakout and award-winning role in The Penthouse Seasons 1 & 2! As busy as he is, he was gracious enough to take some time out of his schedule for an exclusive interview with the KOCOWA team about his acting and future projects.
Q: Congrats on winning the Best Supporting Actor award for your role as the elusive Logan Lee. Tell us more about your role as Logan Lee.
A: Logan has both a sense of guilt and sense of justice towards his adopted sister (Seol Ah). Logan was able to overcome his disease by receiving his sister Seol Ah’s bone marrow transplant, but he couldn’t help Seol Ah. She was abandoned after being accused as a thief due to his parents’ schemes. Later, when Logan finds out the truth and comes to Korea to find his sister, Seol Ah has already been killed.. Logan tries his best to look for clues to avenge his sister’s unjust death through a series of suspicious events that Hera Palace residents have been hiding.
Q: What was it like being on the set of The Penthouse? Did you know the show was going to be such a massive hit?
A: On the set of ‘The Penthouse,’ the atmosphere was always busy and professional. Everyone worked hard without losing their sense of humor, so there was always a pleasant vibe.
Q: We know that the actors receive the script little by little during filming to avoid spoilers, but can you give us a hint about what more is to come in season 2 of The Penthouse? Will we see Shim Su Ryeon again?
A: I’d like to tell you, but I can’t tell you anything because there would be too many spoilers! Please check out the show to see what happens! (laughs)
Q: What sparked your interest in acting?
A: I always had a passionate drive inside myself. It was something that made my heart beat, and that was acting.
Q: Were there some difficulties making the jump from theatrical acting to TV? Any similarities?
A: I think there are a lot of differences between acting in front of the camera and acting on stage. One of the biggest differences is TV shows can be edited later, whereas on stage, it’s all live.. Also, actions on stage have to be very clear and big, whereas when you’re acting in front of a camera, you have to act without exaggeration too much, and make it feel real within the camera frame. So when I made the jump into TV acting, it was very difficult to simplify my expressions in front of the camera and to act with smaller movements.
Q: Seeing that you’ve recently acted in some serious dramas like Partners for Justice Seasons 1 and 2, and Doctor Prisoner, what type of genre would you like to work in next or revisit?
A: I want to be a drama lead in something totally different with more realistic storylines, and maybe not so makjang.
Q: What type of character would you like to try next?
A: I want to do something that people don’t expect from me! I’d like to try action or noir genre movies.
Q: Lastly, are you still following your New Year’s resolutions for 2021?
A: I would like to move forward as I always have done until today. As usual, remaining always the same.
As The Penthouse Season 2 continues to be a big success, we would like to give Park Eun Seok a big thank you for taking the time out of his busy schedule to do this interview. It was a real treat seeing his beautiful house and cute pets on Home Alone, but it was even better hearing about his endeavors firsthand. We are eagerly waiting to see more of Logan Lee in The Penthouse Season 2 and hopefully in Season 3!
If you need more Park Eun Seok in your life, make sure to keep an eye out for his next drama, “Taxi Driver” (*Coming in mid April on KOCOWA) set to premiere next month! The story revolves around an underground taxi service known as the Rainbow Taxi Company that provides a little undercover “extra service.”. For the right price, they’ll make sure justice is served on your behalf if you were robbed of it by the legal system.
In the meantime, keep supporting Park Eun Seok and watch him every Friday and Saturday on Season 2 of The Penthouse, now streaming on KOCOWA with English, Portuguese, and Spanish subtitles!
