Kun Hee Park, the CEO/CPO of KOCOWA, North America’s premier K-content streaming platform, delivered a compelling speech at the ‘2023 Global OTT Forum’ held on the 16th at The Ambassador Seoul – A Pullman Hotel, eloquently emphasizing the need for the birth of a “Global K-OTT.”
This marked the second year of the OTT Forum, gathering not only prominent domestic OTT players such as TVING and Wavve but also distinguished representatives from leading global OTT giants like Netflix, Viu (Hong Kong), DAZN (UK), Canal+ (France), U-NEXT (Japan), and finally, KOCOWA (North Americas and Latin Americas).
“2023 Global OTT Forum”, comprising a total of 6 sessions including keynote speeches and a special discussion, the event is themed ‘Streaming Beyond Imagination’ and is designed to facilitate successful international market expansion for Korean OTT operators and provide support for building a global network.
On this significant occasion, CEO/CPO Kun Hee Park took the lead in the session addressing “What is necessary for the further development of the Korean OTT industry?” He articulated, “OTT platforms, in the past, thrived on exclusive content, akin to Netflix’s early strategy. However, nowadays, a non-exclusive approach has gained more importance.” Emphasizing the concept of ‘Brand Everywhere,’ making KOCOWA presence known everywhere and allowing people to immediately associate the brand with the distinctive hallmark of, ‘This is Korean content.’
CEO Park further emphasized, “When you inquire with foreigners about a platform for Korean content, often there is no distinct response. Should we merely settle as content suppliers? I don’t believe that’s the optimal path.” Elaborating, he stated, “Even when we produce exceptional content with global reach, the intricate landscape of how that content translates into profitability remains unclear. By delving into data analysis, market trends, and coming up with innovative strategies, we can develop new markets that will become the soil for growing better products and content.”
