Crack out that eggnog, and curl up with a cute romantic comedy, set to drop right before Christmas, called “Moonshine!”
Dubbed a chasing romance, “Moonshine” is a historical K-Drama set during the strongest alcohol prohibition time in Korean history. And if you’re familiar with America’s prohibition time, then you know it was a hot mess of cops hunting for breweries and the people enjoying a good speakeasy (aka the secret place you go to drink). Well, I expect no less with “Moonshine!”
What is the K-Drama “Moonshine” About?
As mentioned, this is in the prohibition era, so the main fight in “Moonshine” is between the Joseon police and the alcohol brewers. But the juicy part we love is the story of a strait-laced policeman who tries his hardest to catch illegal alcohol brewers and a down-on-her-luck noblewoman who tries to change her family’s life as an illegal alcohol brewer. Y’all, the story writes itself.
Who is in the K-Drama “Moonshine,” and Who do they Play?
Yoo Seung Ho plays Police Officer Nam Young
Officer Nam came to Han Young (old name for Seoul) to revive his family. Not only is he a super policeman, he is also super handsome, stands super straight, and has a super smooth walking ability that is sure to make the ladies swoon.
On top of all that, he is also super ethical and is the kind of person who keeps his word even if someone has a knife to his throat. Nam Young wants to lead an ambitious righteous life in Han Yang, and he probably would have, until he meets the unpredictable Kang Ro Seo, which is when his life goes into a rabbit hole.
Hyeri plays Kang Ro Seo
Lady Kang Ro Seo was born into a plush yangban (noble) family; however, when her father died ten years, she became the head of the family, which means she is not living that plush life anymore. Now, Lady Kang must try any method to make money to support her brother in passing the government exam.
But her family’s financial situation takes a turn for the worse, falling so quickly that even servants look down on them. However, Ro Seo is not the one to give up! She faces difficult situations head-on and does whatever she needs to do to support her family, which is why she starts to bootleg alcohol!
Byeon Woo Seok plays Lee Pyo
Lee Pyo is the handsome crowned prince, described as a person whose face shines the world wherever he goes. He was not supposed to be the crowned prince, but he is the only prince left standing, so he is the one in line to be King. Lee Pyo has everything in the world he wants, but his best friend is alcohol, so he sneaks out of the palace to find speakeasies where he can enjoy a good old drink. This makes him the #1 problem in the country.
Kang Mi Na plays Han Yae Jin
Lady Han Yae Jin is the only daughter of a well-known noble family. She grew up with everything. If she does not want to do something, then she will never do it. If she wants to do something, then she has to do it. A romantic at heart, if Lady Han likes someone, she only has eyes for them. However, she has not found the one and is getting old enough to be considered an old maid. But Lady Han has standards, y’all; she must marry a handsome man or no man at all.
Does “Moonshine” sound like something you might like? I mean bootlegging, a party-hard crown prince, the love-interest cop on the hunt, and a lady running it all? Yes, please, fill my eyes.
“Moonshine” premieres on December 20th and is available exclusively on KOCOWA!
