Now that we’re welcoming 2023 in a few days, there are some things that won’t change, just like our love for K-Dramas! As part of my new year’s resolutions, I’ve decided that one of the best ways to start off the new year is by watching the premiere of “Brain Works,” the new investigative comedy-drama starring Jung Yong Hwa and Cha Tae Hyun.
“Brain Works”
Synopsis: A full-fledged brain science comic investigation drama in which two men who cannot stand each other solve a criminal case involving a rare brain disease.
Casts: Jung Yong Hwa, Cha Tae Hyun, Kwak Sun Young, Yeh Ji Won
Number of Episodes: 16
Genre: Action, Comedy, Crime
Airing Time: Every Monday and Tuesday starting January 2, 2023
Meet The Characters
Jung Yong Hwa as Shin Ha Ru
After nearly two years on “Sell Your Haunted House,” we’ll get to see Jung Yong Hwa again, this time as a world-renowned neuroscientist who has an “extraordinary brain.” Shin Ha Ru comes from a family of doctors for 3 generations and is wealthy because of inherited properties.
He is a man with firm convictions who does not hesitate to express them, yet he shows no compassion for those he considers to be beneath him. He’s the kind of person who has everything from looks, wealth, and knowledge, but he lacks social skills!
Cha Tae Hyun as Geum Myung Se
After becoming a comedic duo with Jung Jinyoung in “Police University,” Cha Tae Hyun is now Jung Yong Hwa’s new partner in “Brain Works!” He will be playing Geum Myung Se, a kind and righteous detective who has an “altruistic brain.”
He has a reputation for being a corrupt cop because of his perpetually grumpy attitude, but actually, he cares about the welfare of others more than his own. He is the ex-husband of Kim Moo Ran (Yeh Ji Won).
Kwak Sun Young as Seol So Jung
Kwak Sun Young is set to play the role of a forensic hypnosis investigator who has an “anxious brain.” Seol So Jung worries a lot and experiences anxiety on a regular basis; she does not deal well with crises.
When Shin Ha Ru and Geum Myung Se team up to solve crimes, hypnotic investigator Seol So Jung will be there to lend a hand.
Yeh Ji Won as Kim Mo Ran
Ye Ji Won will be playing the role of Geum Myung Se’s ex-wife Kim Mo Ran who has a “sexual brain.” She’s a bold, confident protagonist who doesn’t hide her wild libido.
A woman with an “advanced somatosensory system” has heightened sensitivity to visual stimuli and highly engaged emotional circuitry in her brain.
Why You Should Watch “Brain Works“
If you’re looking for a fresh and entertaining Korean drama, look no further. Together, a neuroscientist, a detective, and a forensic hypnosis investigator will attempt to solve a very unusual brain case in “Brain Works.” The fact that most of the characters are unique and refreshing makes me even more excited to watch “Brain Works.”
I think one of the highlights of this drama is the relationship development of two sworn enemies and polar opposites into partners clashing at every turn to solve serious crime cases.
I know some have a hard time watching a pure action and mystery K-Drama, so it’s really nice that “Brain Works” has the comedy genre making it enjoyable for us. Jung Yong Hwa, Cha Tae Hyun, Kwak Sun Young, and Yeh Ji Won will show us a different kind of chemistry so let’s all add “Brain Works” to our 2023 K-Drama watchlist!
