“BOAR HUNT” K-DRAMA EPISODE 1 RECAP

TLDR

This first episode introduces us to this fast-paced thriller about a farmer (Young Soo) winning a lottery ticket, throwing a huge celebratory party for the town, and then going on a boar hunt the next day. Young Soo may have shot someone on the boar hunt but doesn’t know for sure. However, his son and his son’s friend disappear soon after which creates a ripple through this small-town community leading to an episode 1 cliffhanger accusation of someone telling Young Soo that he knows he killed a person the mountain.

MINI RECAP

In Episode 1, average lovable farmer Young Soo wins a lottery jackpot and drives to Seoul to collect his fortune with his wife, Chae Jung, and their son, In Sung. On the way to Seoul, they meet local villagers and friends who are complaining about a boar destroying their crops. Young Soo tells them he won the lottery jackpot and promises to throw everyone a big party.

That evening, Young Soo and Chae Jung throw a big party for all the villagers. Town elder, Ok Soon and her grandson, Hyun Min, join in on the festivities. Hyun Min was happy to see his friend In Sung, but In Sung looked a little wary of Hyun Min… on top of that, Ok Soon was hostile to all the villagers and called them scoundrels. This is strange because the villagers look like one big happy family; however, they might have underlying animosities that have yet to be revealed…

The next day, Young Soo and his friends go to the mountain to hunt the boar. Young Soo thinks he grazed the boar, so he chases it down, sees a bush moving, and shoots. But instead of a boar’s howl, he hears a person screaming!

Young Su is scared, confused, and plagued by the possibility that he might have shot a person. That night, he has nightmares that the police come to arrest him, and later that evening, he hears that his high school son, In Sung, didn’t come home last night. So, in the middle of the night, he goes to the mountain to find his son. However, he accidentally injures himself on the mountain and starts to have visions of his son getting shot.

The next day, Chae Jung calls the police about her missing son and finds out that Ok Soon’s grandson is also missing. But, based on CCTV footage, a detective named Du Man tells the parents that their kids are still in the village and does not take the missing case seriously. However, Chae Jung and Young Soo angrily protest, and Young Soo tells her if anything bad happens to his son, that detective will die.

Then Young Soo receives a mysterious call from a restricted number. A modulated voice tells him that he knows why Young Soo searches the mountain every day, and he knows Young Soo killed someone.

Dun dun dunnn…the plot thickens!
