With just a month left until the end of 2020, let’s review some of the best Korean dramas of the year! These k-dramas were TV rating juggernauts in Korea. And of course, they are the most talked-about online and have garnered a lot of interest from K-drama fans in Korea and globally!
1. Dr. Romantic 2
The second season of “Dr. Romantic” definitely didn’t disappoint despite the elevated expectations after its first season. The story follows Dr. Kim (Han Seok Kyu) who used to work in a renowned hospital but is now a chief surgeon in Doldam Hospital, located in the countryside. Dr. Kim quickly showed his charms in season 1 through his excellent skills in diagnosing patients quickly and choosing to risk his career to save patients when every second is crucial instead of following medical protocols .
In this new season, Dr. Kim is in need of competent surgeons to join his hospital. Interestingly, the two who found their way to his hospital have their own hurdles to overcome. Cha Eun Jae (Lee Sung Kyoung) is a second-year cardiothoracic surgery fellow who is unable to perform surgeries, and Seo Woo Jin (Ahn Hyo Seop) is a second-year general surgery fellow who is desperate for money.
The series is fast-paced and yet has plenty of heartwarming scenes as Dr. Kim helps the surgeons in his hospital mature and become better people.

2. Stove League
Without any knowledge of baseball, every minute of each episode is still compelling to watch. Baek Seung Soo (Namkoong Min) is appointed to be the new general manager for the baseball team, Dreams, which has been ranked at the bottom of the league. Seung Soo (main male lead) is an intelligent person who is firm with his decisions no matter how unpopular they are. On the other hand, operations manager Lee Se Young (Park Eun Bin) devoted her life to the team and continues to believe in her team despite the losing streak.
A series about baseball with barely any baseball games in it. The show provides a different perspective and focuses more on the people working behind the scenes who also play a huge role in their teams’ success. Watching Seung Soo slowly putting the dispirited team back together when it is almost falling apart will even inspire the non-sports fans.
“Stove League” was also awarded the Best Drama at the 2020 Baeksang Arts Awards this year and they sure do deserve every bit of the success.

3. Good Casting
If you’re fond of comedy, this is a series that you shouldn’t miss out on! Korea’s National Intelligence Service forms a team of three agents, Baek Chan Mi (Choi Gang Hee), Hwang Mi Soon (Kim Ji Young) and Im Ye Eun (Yoo In Young). Among them, only Chan Mi is still passionate about being a secret agent. Hwang Mi Soon has left NIS to become a housewife and Im Ye Eun prefers to have a stable desk job in the NIS. Chan Mi, however, is reckless. This is where chaos happens. The trio continue to mess up their missions clumsily and barely complete them.
A great comedic drama if all you need is a good laugh!

4. SF8
“SF8” is a sci-fi anthology series that is thought-provoking. Every episode explores a different futuristic, and mostly dystopian theme. For example, the first episode titled “The Prayer” starring Lee Yoo Young, Uhm Hye Ran, and Ye Soo Jung digs into a world where AI replaces jobs, leaving many humans hopeless and poor.
Gan Ho Joong (Lee Yoo Young), an advanced android caretaker, is responsible for Yeon Jung In’s (Lee Yoo Young) mother who has been in a coma for the past decade. Jung In struggles with financial and emotional problems, and only has her android to talk to. Gan Ho Joong cares for Jung In and slowly becomes sentient. She decisively chooses to take someone’s life to save another on her own and yearns to be loved. Will the humans accept her?
Despite the need to wrap up each story within an episode, the pacing is just right and each of them explores its own world just enough to keep things intense and incites thought-provoking questions at the end.

5. The Penthouse
“The Penthouse” is shockingly dramatic. If you loved “The Last Empress” written by Kim Sun Ok, you’ll love this one too as it has the same screenwriter. Similar to “The Last Empress,” “The Penthouse” starring Lee Ji Ah, Kim So Yeon and Eugene, explores a world where the rich and powerful trample on the poor in the most theatrical ways that will have you streaming it each week! You just know that this wouldn’t happen in real life. But the more you get into the story, the more addicted to the drama you will be! Even though most of its characters are evil, you can see all the fun that Kim Sun Ok is having writing this show!
The series is still airing, and as of now, it has already achieved huge success by hitting 16% on its latest episode! This drama is also the first weekly K-Drama that will be 3 seasons!

6. Kairos
Filled with suspense and thrills, “Kairos” doesn’t have a single boring moment to date. This series is currently airing and hooks viewers quickly by keeping things fast-paced and its ability to link the connection between its many characters together.
Kim Seo Jin’s (Shin Sung Rok) life is turned upside down when his daughter is kidnapped and his wife commits suicide while Han Ae Ri’s mother is hospitalized but suddenly disappears in the hospital. Han Ae Ri suddenly receives a call from Kim Seo Jin who lives 30 days ahead of her in the future. The two try to solve the mysteries for each other. As the story slowly unfolds, there are surprising plot twists waiting in every corner.
