Due to the Winter Olympics, there was only one episode of “Young Lady and Gentleman” this weekend, but still, this one episode was overwhelming enough! We were left on a scene where Soo Chul gets into an accident while chasing Dan Dan, and this cliffhanger was something that was lingering on my mind during the whole week. I was hoping and praying that the story doesn’t turn into another amnesia thing, AGAIN! Fortunately, there weren’t any severe injuries inflicted on Soo Chul, but even when he was hospitalized, he firmly unapproved Dan Dan and Young Guk’s relationship. BUT YOU GUYS, there was a huge revelation in this episode! Let’s go over some highlighted recap points and deep dive on what’s coming next.

Episode 39 Recap:
- Soo Chul’s Accident
Soo Chul was chasing after Dan Dan when she managed to escape from the room that her father locked her in. Unfortunately, while taking an abrupt turn, Soo Chul gets into an accident and immediately gets sent to the hospital. Dan Dan was dismayed and blamed herself for this terrible accident. Soo Chul was unconscious for a while, then woke up still in denial about the fact that his young daughter is in a relationship with an old man with three kids. (Thank GOD it was a minor accident. I was gonna go nuts if the story turns into Soo Chul having amnesia from the accident!!!!)
- Forbidden Love
Despite the fact that Soo Chul is adamantly disapproving of Dan Dan and Young Guk’s relationship, Dan Dan does not back down her love for Young Guk. However, Young Guk seems to waver a bit, after all, he is a father himself and somewhat related to where Soo Chul was coming from.
- Another Forbidden Love…
Have you guys closely watched the second lead couple, Mi Rim and Jun Oh? Well, they are cousins. I mean step cousins. Mi Rim shows concerns about where this relationship will lead after the other families find out, but Jun Oh reassures her that their relationship is not as shocking. (This comment made me LOL so hard, but I am not sure which is more shocking. Huge age gap between couples, or step cousins as a couple…)
- Sa Ra as a New Florist
After leaving Young Guk’s house, Sa Ra gets a new job as a florist and is assigned to Young Guk’s home. ( This was probably all planned out) Sa Ra wants to know every detail about what’s going on between Dan Dan and Young Guk. However, the new housekeeper makes sure Sa Ra doesn’t eavesdrop on any vital information. Sa Ra is also happy to see Se Jong.
- Ana Kim is Enraged
Ana Kim spots Young Guk and Dan Dan holding hands in front of his company building. Ana Kim yells at Young Guk at his office saying some uncomfortable things like ”Think about Jennie when she becomes 27 and brings home an older man.” Young Guk is startled by the fact that Ana is this furious. He even thinks that she is overstepping, and her main concern is not really about him but about Dan Dan’s POV.
- Soo Chul Gets on His Knees
Soo Chul gets on his knees and begs Young Guk to break up with Dan Dan. Soo Chul seems desperate and asks for Young Guk’s consideration as a father himself. Young Guk is heartbroken and starts to waver. (How can he not.. Everyone but him is against this relationship..) And Dan Dan happens to see this whole situation and is also very heartbroken.
- Dan Dan’s Big Decision
Dan Dan cannot bear the fact that her father was down on his knees and is in despair. She makes a huge decision and breaks up with Young Guk. Soo Chul is very relieved about this fact and asks Young Guk for one last favor – to hurry the process of getting the new teacher for the kids.
- Dan Dan Takes Her Words Back
Dan Dan begs Soo Chul for some empathy. Dan Dan breaks down and asks Soo Chul to approve of their relationship. Yeon Sil then agrees with Dan Dan and asks Soo Chul to leave them two alone, making the statement: “What’s so bad about it? Young Guk has lots of money to take care of Dan Dan, and they genuinely like each other.” (wooooooo this is such a strong comment!!!!! I am boiling inside..!!!)
- Soo Chul’s Ultimatum
Soo Chul decides to tell Dan Dan to move to the States with Ana Kim, even if he really does not like this idea, but this is his ultimatum. He’d rather have Dan Dan move to the States than stay at Young Guk’s house, making this breakup difficult. He promises her that, if she moves to the States and studies there for 3 years, and if her feelings toward Young Guk still stay the same, he will give up and approves of their relationship.
- Young Guk Finds Out…
Young Guk finds it very strange that Ana Kim is so involved in denying Dan Dan and Young Guk’s relationship. So he secretly conducts an investigation and finds out that Ana Kim is the biological mother of Dan Dan!…
Trailer Breakdown for Episode 40 of “Young Lady and Gentleman”:
I was, at first, bummed about only one episode airing this week due to the Winter Olympics, but boy did this one episode get me! From Soo Chul’s accident to Young Guk finding out Ana Kim is the biological mother of Dan Dan was enough already. This drama never NOT surprises me. Another cliffhanger in a trailer, where Yeon Sil finds out this secret between Ana Kim and Soo Chul, will make me want to wish this week would pass by fast. Ana Kim promises Soo Chul that she will never let Dan Dan know that she is the biological mother while they are both in the States.
Soo Chul’s restaurant neighbor spots Soo Chul and Ana Kim together, takes a picture, and shows it to Yeon Sil. Yeon Sil asks, “Are they having an affair?”
The reckless ex visits Sa Ra at her flower shop and asks where their son is, hoping to start a new life altogether.
Jennie makes a suggestion for the whole family to go on a last trip with Dan Dan. Young Guk and Dan Dan both promise to wait for each other.
Yeon Sil believes Ana had an ulterior motive behind why she wanted to take Soo Chul to the States in the first place. Ana Kim hands Soo Chul a document and while doing so, Yeon Sil spots those two and eavesdropped on Ana Kim being the biological mother of Dan Dan.

Jeez these comments about age difference inappropriateness. It’s a comedy for goodness sake. Don’t be such prudes. Kdramas are about as pg13 as you can get.
Remember DanDan helped SeRaen escape from her first disastrous wedding.But I’m not sure if they knew they had anybody in common.
Hopefully they form some kind of alliance soon…
I totally forgot about that, but it makes their next interaction even stranger (which I did remember but wasn’t counting since it was such a sterile interaction, as if they didn’t really have a history) when YG was in the hospital after getting his memory back. Makes me think the writer figured there was too much going on for the limited minutes they had.
I feel like we are definitely not getting a time skip, since it would be such a waste to have to cast new actors as the older versions of the children (the boys at least).
Starting to like Yeon Sil more and more as she is finally on the right side.
It would be nice to have Dan Dan and Se-Ryeon spend more time interacting. It’s weird that they haven’t, right? They are perusing each other’s brothers after all and they are both very likeable so an alliance/friendship would be fun I think, and bonus points for it driving Dae-Ran extra crazy too. Even though the families are all tangled up together, the individuals seem to be in their own little box. I can’t even remember if Dan Dan and Mi-Rim have spoken to each other at all even though they are in the same room a lot. I feel like all these people are feeling isolated but there’s a good support network right there waiting for them if they would just talk to each other.
OMG! you are so right. It never occurred to me that DD and Mi Ran never spoke and also Se Ryeon too! I was just so focused on the whole storyline that I’ve never thought about those possible support system that DD can get or should get! Super weird.. They should definitely communicate!!
