[DISCLAIMER: SPOILERS AHEAD!]
“Welcome2Life” is a nice blend of 2 different genres, crime and fantasy. The male lead, Lee Jae-Sang (Rain), is a lawyer who travels to the parallel universe after getting involved in a traffic accident.
I say Lee Jae-Sang (Rain) is a lucky guy. He’s made himself known as a jerk lawyer making all the wrong choices in life, but when he travels to the parallel universe, he gets to experience a better life (and not worse) that resulted from different life choices.
But perhaps Lawyer Lee Jae-Sang was too used to being a jerk, it took him long enough to adjust himself to the parallel universe–or I should say, to living as a good guy. I don’t hate that fact, because that made things comedic and fun to watch.
Here are some signs that Lee Jae-Sang showed when he traveled to the parallel universe!
1. Asks if it’s a hidden camera prank [Episode 3]
Firstly, you don’t see people walking in pajamas in the middle of the streets! Lawyer Lee Jae-Sang wakes up in the morning, and gets shocked seeing his wife Ra Shi-On (Lim Ji-Yeon) in his bedroom. He rushes to his law firm to get help from his superior. Unsurprisingly, his superior and his colleagues are hostile towards him. From there, he came to a conclusion: Someone is playing a prank on him.
2. Acts recklessly [Episode 3]
Lee Jae-Sang thinks, “If this is all just a dream, it doesn’t matter if I let out all my pent-up anger and offend my superior.” But Lee Jae-Sang is wrong, and has to work with this superior till he returns to his real world.
3. Lifts his arm to guard himself [Episode 4]
Are you going to hit me?” The lawyer is so used to getting hit by Ra Si-On that he gets scared even when she lifts up her arm slightly.
4. Apologizes and cries when he saved someone successfully [Episode 4]
Everyone is smiling and happy. They are all relieved that the victim was saved. The victim smiles at Lee Jae-Sang and thanked him for saving her. But instead of feeling relieved like everyone else, Jae-Sang cries and apologizes to her, making the atmosphere awkward. That’s exactly when you know someone has messed things up badly in his real world.
5. Waking up in the morning and going, “No, why am I still here?” [Episode 5]
Expecting that everything is just a dream, Jae-Sang thought he would be waking up in the morning alone. Seeing his daughter and wife still in his room when he wakes up, he runs to the corner of the bedroom and asks his wife a strange question, “Why am I still here?”
6. “Who sent him to jail?” [Episode 7]
Lee Jae-Sang has no idea why the person he’s been working with in the real world hates him in the parallel universe. When this guy reveals that he doesn’t like working with the person who sent him to jail, Lee Jae-Sang immediately snapped and asked, “Who sent him to jail?”
A few awkward moments later…
Lee Jae-Sang finally realizes that he was the one who sent him to jail in the parallel world. Well, I won’t doubt his ability in reading the atmosphere.
Watch “Welcome2Life” on KOCOWA here!
With all the mess Lee Jae-Sang has created and the problems he has solved in the parallel world, it makes me wonder if Jae-Sang could communicate with his parallel character in the future episodes?
I would give this drama points for its novelty. Parallel universes are rare in the K-drama world. The story has been good so far with little twists in some episodes.
