Why You Should Watch “Connection“
1. An Excellent Crime Investigation Thriller
One of the best genres K-dramas excel in is the mystery crime thriller, and “Connection” continues this excellence in a way we haven’t seen lately. The show opens with an intriguing premise: “What would you do if your dead high school friend, whom you haven’t spoken to in years, left you 5 billion won in insurance money?”
The drama is brilliant for making the main character, Jae Kyeong (Ji Sung), a detective with a twist—when have you seen a drug-addicted detective as the main character? To make things more interesting, the story also revolves around other high school friends who are all connected to the death of Joon Seo (Yoon Na Moo).
The female lead, Yoon Jin (Jeon Mi Do), is a reporter willing to do anything for money, and she is also Joon Seo’s ex-girlfriend. The other main characters include a prosecutor (Kwon Yul) who is willing to bend the law for his own gain and a good-for-nothing second-generation chaebol (Kim Kyung Nam) who holds some sort of power over his friends.
2. Thrilling Drama All Throughout The Episode
Ever since the first episode, “Connection” has been consistent with its thrilling plot which will keep you on the edge of the seat wanting to know more what happens next. It’s such a great crime investigation thriller because it feels like we’re in the POV of the main character. We experience what he experiences and only learn the truth as he discovers it, making “Connection” a unique experience that leaves us eager for the next episode.
The drama is full of twists and turns in every episode. Who would have thought that the 5 billion won insurance money left by their dead friend would be used to start investigating a series of crimes and reopen a case from 20 years ago that deeply affected their lives? It’s amazing how this drama keeps us guessing, making it hard to trust anyone. Just like the main characters, we are also unaware of everyone’s true intentions.
Some of my favorite twists *SPOILERS AHEAD* include when Tae Jin and Joon Seo’s wife turn out to be cheaters. It gets even crazier when she discovers that Joon Seo still cared for Yoon Jin, using her birthday as the password for everything. Another shocking moment is when Jae Kyeong finds a different path and CCTV behind the construction site where Joon Seo died. This drama is just so INSANE.
3. Ji Sung and his Daesang Worthy Performance
Since it stars a detective who was forcibly addicted to the drug and still investigating a case, the thrill of knowing his secret might be discovered by his colleagues is so intense and Ji Sung perfectly portrays this character, giving us chills whenever he’s craving another drug!
Not only Ji Sung, but the entire cast, especially Jeon Mi Do, Kwon Yul, and Kim Kyung Nam, are incredible actors. “Connection” is an acting fest, with everyone giving their all in every moment of this drama.
4. The Most Buzzworthy Drama + Double Digit Ratings
“Connection‘s” viewership ratings are continuously rising with the latest episode achieving an 11.1% double-digit rating! It also holds the title of the most buzzworthy drama according to the Good Data Corporation, which compiles data on viewer engagement with news, posts, videos, and social media to identify the most buzz-worthy shows. Ji Sung and Jeon Mi Do are both on the Most Buzzworthy Actors and Actresses list, ranking 4th and 9th, respectively.
What to look forward in the Next Episodes?
For those who don’t know, “Connection” has only 14 episodes, different from the usual 16 episodes in K-dramas. This means we can expect more quality episodes without any dragging moments. Will we finally get to know what really happened with Joon Seo’s death and answer the questions we have in our mind? Like who killed him? What happened 20 years ago that altered their friendship? Can Joo Song be trusted? Will they get the 5 billion won in insurance money? These questions will be answered in the next episodes, which will be available on KOCOWA+ with professional subtitles!
