The newly premiered survival action thriller “The Defects” is quickly becoming a hot topic across social media platforms—and for good reason! This drama has captured attention with its unique and unsettling plot centered on how the rich people can easily adopt children, only to discard them when they’re no longer wanted.

One day, an incident happens that destroys the world that Ah Hyun believed in. At the same time, an unbelievable truth is revealed. From illegal adoptions and murders disguised as “refunds” to the monstrous minds behind it all, everything tells Ah Hyun that she can’t just be hiding anymore. What We Liked About “The Defects” After Episodes 1–2
It Sticks to Its Genre—and Takes It Further

After watching episodes 1 and 2, “The Defects” proves to be something we haven’t seen before. While we’re used to action thrillers featuring detectives chasing criminals—sometimes lightly touching on themes like child trafficking—this drama dives deep into it.
The story begins with Ah Hyun, a child who was abandoned by her adoptive parents and now acts as the leader of a group of kids who’ve gone through the same thing. She was supposed to be “discarded” (yes, killed by the organization), but she gets saved by Tae Sik, someone inside the group who’s secretly helping to rescue these abandoned children. There are four abandoned children at the start, but soon a new one, an 11-year-old, is added.

As the episodes unfold, we start to see just how dark and sad their pasts are—one experienced sexual abuse, others were mistreated or thrown away like trash. What’s worse is that they now have to live in hiding because if they’re seen, they’ll be hunted down. You can feel their pain and trauma, especially knowing that the very people they once called “mom” or “dad” are the ones who gave up on them.
The first two episodes deliver intense action scenes and some truly disturbing moments, which made the experience gripping from start to finish. It’s a thriller that doesn’t hold back—so brace yourself, because this drama isn’t afraid to deal with uncomfortable truths.
A Story That Will Make You Think—and Feel Angry

“The Defects” has a haunting plot. It focuses on an illegal adoption ring run by a hospital chairwoman who also heads a famous charity foundation. In this world, rich people can buy children, adopt them like pets or trophies, and when they no longer want them, they “return” the kids to the ring—only to have them killed.
And it’s not subtle. The adults in this drama are evil. They treat children like products—things that can be disposed of. They even have the nerve to call these kids “The Defects,” as if they’re broken or worthless. One scene that really sticks with you is a mother who abandons her 11-year-old child, then fakes a whole act like she’s a heartbroken mom crying on TV. So fake. So cruel.
The scariest part? This kind of thing still happens in real life. Child trafficking is still a harsh reality, and no child deserves to be treated this way. This drama reminds us of that in the most painful, eye-opening way.
In-Sync Characters

I mean, we can all agree that just because a drama has a good plot doesn’t mean it will be enjoyable—because the actors and actresses truly bring it to life. And in “The Defects,” the cast is perfectly in sync with their characters!
Yum Jung Ah is seriously giving me chills as the chairwoman. She acts like a warm, lovable person in public, but behind the scenes, she’s the most evil character—someone who doesn’t even treat the abandoned children like human beings. Won Jin A is spectacular as Ah Hyun, the brave and strong leader of the discarded kids. Choi Young Joon as Tae Sik is the kind of character we find ourselves rooting for—he’s been part of the system, but deep down, he wants to save the children trapped in it. And Dex? Wow. Who would’ve thought he’s a newcomer? He fits right in with these experienced actors and holds his own!
What To Look Forward To?

We’re only two episodes in, but “The Defects” already has us hooked! With only 8 episodes total, expect the story to be fast-paced, intense, and packed with revelations.
There’s so much to look forward to. Will the abandoned kids get to destroy the system that tried to erase them? Will they take revenge into their own hands? Is Tae Sik really dead? And here’s a twist we’re all thinking about—what if the chairwoman’s daughter isn’t even her real child? What if she’s adopted too?
This drama keeps us guessing, and I seriously can’t wait for the next episodes to drop. If you haven’t started watching it yet, this is your sign! You can watch “The Defects” now on KOCOWA+, with multiple subtitle options available for everyone!
