Say hello to awkward earnestness because “Cringy Romance” is here, bringing youthful romantic comedy to first love college life, and we are here for it.
I am fully sat, actually, because the vibes are spot on—SPOT ON, I TELL YOU. The story of “Cringy Romance” centers on four friends navigating their first love, which leads to their first serious relationships in their twenties.
Messy emotions, awkward moments, and small heartfelt scenes make this possibly the most relatable depiction of early love this year. Are you ready to step into that vintage love feeling? Here are our four reasons to convince you to give “Cringy Romance” a try!
That Vintage 2000 Feeling
They hang out in computer labs and play StarCraft, use flip phones sparingly, every other person smokes like it’s going out of style, middle parts and blond highlights rule the day, and the stylish of them all sport baggy clothes to follow the newest hip hop trends. It’s barely the 00’s, and they nailed the feeling of it.
The Romantic Cringe is Chef’s Kiss
Wow, do they nail these awkward romantic moments! I love how no friend knows how to talk to girls, and yet they all pretend like they have all the answers. We even have some fun “what if” scene play moments. But in reality, just seeing a girl they like is enough to make them lose their ever-loving mind and behave like a newborn that forgot how to walk, talk, or act right. The power these girls have over them is so adorable! But the funniest thing is, the girls know it!
Broke College Friends in Their 20s
These kids just graduated high school and are in college for the first time. They love hanging out, are intimidated by seniors, and wear their varsity letter jackets everywhere. They have no clue about love or even how to talk to a girl, and really just enjoy hanging out, interacting with each other’s parents, and enjoying those fun friendship moments they can squeeze into their day. But most importantly, these friends want their friend’s love story to work out and do their best to help make it happen.
Each Episode Feels Like a Mini Movie
There are eight episodes, and each one focuses deeply on our friends’ “First Love” story, allowing them (and us) to really dive into that college moment they first fell in love and everything that involved—from first look to first touch to that first conversation and first meal together, and the first time they chat with their friends about it to figure out just how in the world they are supposed to act in front of them. It is hilarious and heartfelt and wonderfully, cringingly authentic.
If you want to smile, then “Cringy Romance” is the drama you need to watch. So grab those high-top Nikes, get those blond tips, and give it a try!
