The romantic comedy campus mystery K-Drama “Cheer Up” is one of the most loved airing K-Dramas right now because its ratings have been on the rise, ranked third on the “Most Buzzworthy Drama and Actors’ list,” and it is frequently trending on various social media platforms like Twitter and Tiktok!

So the question is, what’s with this K-Drama that a lot of us are enjoying every moment of? I have watched the latest episodes, and I’ll be listing five reasons why you should add this drama to your watchlist!

1. A Refreshing Campus Drama About Cheering Squads

To be honest, is there really a person who doesn’t like a good campus drama? “Cheer Up” will make you feel like you’re also a college student currently studying at Yeonhee University!

This drama’s unique selling point is its emphasis on a cheerleading team. Everything from the tryout through the rehearsal to the actual cheer competition was broadcast live for us to enjoy! In the fourth episode, when the Theia cheerleading squad performed in front of the entire school, I was blown away by how beautiful and magical that moment was.

2. The Mystery Subplot Which Will Make You Look Forward Every Episode

Even though I knew “Cheer Up” was going to be a romantic comedy-drama set on a college campus, I had no idea that it would also feature a mystery. The mystery is only a subplot, which I know some people won’t enjoy, but I think it makes the drama more exciting to watch.

To give you a little bit of a spoiler, the third prophecy in “Cheer Up” predicts that a member of the cheerleading team would be killed, and the drama is currently in the 2019 timeline, so we can definitely expect a lot more interesting and intriguing scenes now that we are in the second half of the drama!

3. Han Ji Hyun’s Chemistry With The Two Male Leads

I’m not really a fan of love triangles, but “Cheer Up” features one. I’m loving Han Ji Hyun’s chemistry with both Bae In Hyuk and Kim Hyun Jin. I find myself smiling whenever there are Jung Woo (In Hyuk) and Hae Yi (Ji Hyun) scenes because I really ship those two characters, and I also enjoyed seeing Hae Yi with Sun Ho (Hyun Jin) before he became a red flag character. BUT if we’re speaking in terms of chemistry, Han Ji Hyun can do it with her two male leads!

4. Features a Lot of Different Characters With a Story Of Their Own

I thought it was great that every one of the many characters in “Cheer Up” had their own unique backstory. First, Do Hae Yi is such an amazing female lead. At a young age, she takes care of her family and always prioritizes them before herself. Despite having a hard life, it doesn’t stop Hae Yi from being a cheerful and nice person. In contrast, Park Jung Woo is a trustworthy captain and teammate. He’s the type who gives his all to his pursuits and looks out for those closest to him.

Jin Sun Ho is that kind of second lead who’s so into Do Hae Yi that he’s being too much to show his feelings. I know he’s a nice guy so I’m waiting for his character development. We can all agree that Tae Cho Hee is the ideal second female lead. I think she’s awesome since she’s a badass and a solid Vice Captain for the cheerleading squad.

The other members of the cheerleading squad also get featured in the drama, which adds to the entertainment value. One of my favorite characters in this show is seeing Lee Eun Saem in the role of Joo Sun Ja!

5. The Slow Burn Romance of Jung Woo and Hae Yi

I watched “Cheer Up” because I really loved Han Ji Hyun in “The Penthouse” and Bae In Hyuk in “At A Distance, Spring is Green,” and it’s really great seeing these two as the love interests in the drama.

Han Ji Hyun’s character, Do Hae Yi, is a bright new addition to the Theia cheerleading squad, led by charismatic captain, Park Jung Woo (Bae In Hyuk). Even in the most recent episodes, it’s clear that Jung Woo and Hae Yi have fallen for each other, but Jung Woo is holding back from showing his feelings since he still has a lot of responsibilities as the cheerleading team captain and because he has to protect Hae Yi from the current mysterious attacks.

Pros and cons of a slow-burn romance exist, but in this case, we’re rooting more for the two to be together, and can you picture how your heart would flutter if they started dating and did cute couple stuff? I will definitely melt!

Is “Cheer Up” Worth Watching?

As someone who has enjoyed the first episode up to the latest, IT’S A BIG YES. I’m really a sucker for good campus romcoms, and it’s such a great feeling seeing how these Yeonhee university students grow into the fantastic Theia cheerleading squad.

If you enjoyed other school dramas like “Extra-ordinary You,” “Love All Play,” and more coming-of-age dramas, I think you would enjoy this refreshing campus drama that you can watch on KOCOWA!
