“The Penthouse” season two surpassed a viewer rating of 20 percent in the second episode, signaling the return of the makjang.

According to Nielsen Korea, the second episode of SBS’s new Friday-Saturday drama, “The Penthouse 2,” received a 20.4% viewer rating nationwide, the highest ranking in all  miniseries dramas that aired  within the same week.

“The Penthouse” remained steady at the 20% range last year. It has most certainly lived up to  its reputation as the ‘makjang of makjang,’ a hot topic even before season two aired.

The show has already created  a shocking twist in just the first two episodes. In the first episode, Oh Yoon Hee (Eugene) moves into Hera Palace with Ha Yoon Chul (Yoon Jong Hoon) as a married couple and was recruited as a member of Hera Club, making Cheon Seo Jin (Kim So Yeon) furious. More fast-paced and unexpected plot twists in every episode still remain yet to be seen in the rest of season two, coming soon.

Critics say the actors’ performances have become even more intense and diverse in season two. Relationships between characters are drawing attention as they deepen and rapidly change. “The Penthouse is a very attractive drama full of versatile actors,” critics add. “It’s a lot of fun for viewers to watch the actors play their characters perfectly.”
