This is not a drill because, finally, after two years, the critically acclaimed medical drama “Dr. Romantic” will return for a third season, AND the best part is that the actors from the first two seasons will return for the third.
During his post-interview for “Extraordinary Attorney Woo,” director Yoo In Sik discussed “Dr. Romantic 2“. (Yes, he directed both of these fantastic dramas.) He finished filming the popular K-Drama “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” and is preparing for the third season of “Dr. Romantic” with the show’s writer, Kang Eun Kyung, he said.
Now for the most exciting part. According to PD Yoo In Sik, most of the actors who starred in season 2, including Han Seok Kyu (Master Kim), have already expressed their desire to join in season 3 due to their deep affection for the series. The two main characters of season 2, Ahn Hyo Seop and Lee Sung Kyoung, are also anticipated to return!
Why is “Dr. Romantic” the Best Medical K-Drama?
Master Kim (Han Seok Kyu), the head of surgery at the local general hospital Doldam Hospital, is the main character of the popular “Dr. Romantic” franchise. The drama is actually named after him “Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim!” Season one centered on him with Yoo Yeon Seok and Seo Hyun Jin, while season two featured Ahn Hyo Seop and Lee Sung Kyoung as leads alongside Han Seok Kyu.
I think everyone who watched this fantastic medical drama would agree with me on this. When it comes to K-Dramas, “Dr. Romantic” is the complete package. The stories of the numerous patients are at the core, and there are heart-fluttering romance, comedy, and incredible life lessons from Master Kim. He is, without a doubt, a top-tier K-Drama character.
“Dr. Romantic” Season 1
The first season stars Han Suk Kyu as Master Kim and Yoo Yeon Seok and Seo Hyun Jin as the two doctors he mentored after they were transferred to the small Doldam Hospital. For the benefit of his patients, he instructs them on how to become outstanding doctors willing to fight against money, power, and greed!
You’ll learn a lot about medicine and life in general thanks to Master Kim’s philosophy, and you’ll also be entertained by the varied stories of the patients featured in each episode. Dong Ju and Seo Jung, from Season 1, are another favorite pairing of mine. They keep each other company and keep up a professional demeanor at work, making for a sweet couple.
Oh, and this drama also features an incredible second male lead (shoutout to best boy Do In Beom) whose backstory will make you care about him by the end of the series. The series as a whole focuses on the experiences of those who found themselves at Doldam Hospital and benefited greatly from Master Kim’s teachings. I also appreciated that the story’s focus was not solely on the doctors but instead emphasized how everyone inside the hospital contributed to taking care of the patients.
“Dr. Romantic” Season 2
I was thrilled when I heard this medical drama had been renewed for a second season, and the sequel delivered as promised. Although it is similar to the original in that it follows the experiences of ER patients, its sequel has new main characters. Diseases, procedures, and conflicts were portrayed in the second season much more intensely as compared to the first. It also provided us with a variety of stories that moved our hearts.
New primary and supporting characters, all of whom are distinct but endearing, are also featured in the sequel. For example, I really like Cha Eun Jae, played by Lee Sung Kyoung. She is an advocate for the rights of all people and a powerful female protagonist!
Both lead and second lead couples in “Dr. Romantic 2” are fantastic. There’s no denying the incredible chemistry between Ahn Hyo Seop and Lee Sung Kyoung, not to mention their excellent relationship dynamics. The two were once on opposite sides of a campus rivalry and are now working together and are romantically involved.
The supporting couple is great, too. Everyone adored Ah Reum’s pairing with the best boy and gentleman, Eun Tak because she is refreshingly lovely, genuine, and straightforward about her feelings.
So, how is “Dr. Romantic” different from other hospital dramas? It’s the only drama with Master Kim, and it’s a medical drama that shows us the romance in life.
If you haven’t seen this drama yet, consider this your sign; I guarantee you won’t be disappointed. Finally, there’s more wonderful news! The first and second seasons of “Dr. Romantic” are all available to stream on KOCOWA+ with English and Portuguese subtitles!
