Here are the highlights of episodes 39 & 40 of “Our Golden Days” starring Jung Il Woo, Jung In Sun, and Yoon Hyun Min.
“Our Golden Days” Episodes 39 & 40 Recap:
- Sang Cheol discovers that his son Ji Hyuk has been close friends with Eun Oh for years, unaware that Eun Oh is also Sang Cheol’s secret friend. Ji Hyuk is completely blindsided by the revelation, especially since Eun Oh has long been his unrequited love. Eun Oh sits Ji Hyuk down and explains how her friendship with his father began, leaving Ji Hyuk struggling to process the tangled connections between them.

- Su Bin is left deeply unsettled after Seong Hee suddenly shows up, but her anxiety doesn’t last long. Seong Jae soon asks to meet her, and Su Bin braces herself, convinced he’s about to break up with her. Instead, Seong Jae tells her that his father has approved of their relationship. Overwhelmed with relief and happiness, Su Bin feels their bond grow stronger than ever.
- Yeong Ra visits Woo Jin in the hospital to check on his condition. During their conversation, Woo Jin mentions a webtoon he’s been enjoying lately, praising the artwork without realizing who the creator is. Unable to hold it in any longer, Yeong Ra reveals that she’s the artist behind the webtoon. Woo Jin is visibly moved, filled with pride that his younger sister has grown into a full-fledged webtoonist.

- Jin Seok later contacts Su Bin in secret and asks to meet. From the moment she faces him, her unease only deepens. Jin Seok coldly warns her that her relationship with Seong Jae will go no further than dating. Su Bin listens but refuses to back down, making it clear she doesn’t agree and chooses not to tell Seong Jae about the meeting to spare him from being hurt by his father’s actions. Jin Seok is caught off guard by Su Bin’s composure and her fierce protectiveness over Seong Jae.

- Yeong Ra makes another visit to the hospital to see Woo Jin, where she accidentally overhears a shocking truth: Woo Jin has a twin sister and that sister is Eun Oh. Stunned, Yeong Ra can’t believe what Seong Hee has been hiding all this time. She seeks Eun Oh out directly and bluntly asks if they share the same mother. In a surprisingly childlike moment, Yeong Ra asks whether she, too, can defy her parents and live life on her own terms as a webtoonist. Eun Oh scoffs at the question at first, telling Yeong Ra to leave, but ultimately scolds her with brutal honesty. If that’s truly what she wants, Eun Oh insists, then she should pursue it without hesitation because real parents should support their child’s dreams, not stand in their way. Eun Oh can’t help but feel conflicted, noting how both Woo Jin and Yeong Ra appear mature on the outside yet remain emotionally naive, having lived their entire lives under Seong Hee’s shadow.

- Seong Jae eventually learns that Su Bin met privately with his father. Furious and worried, he rushes to her, demanding to know why she kept it from him. He’s shaken by the thought that Su Bin may have been hurt by Sang Cheol. Their argument spills out into a nearby park unbeknownst to them, Sang Cheol overhears everything after returning from grocery shopping. Enraged by their relationship, Sang Cheol summons both Seong Jae and Su Bin to his home and harshly reprimands them. Da Jung is equally shocked, unable to accept that her daughter is dating Seong Jae, a divorced man significantly older than Su Bin. As if things couldn’t get worse, Sang Cheol confronts Jin Seok and humiliates him, declaring that he will never approve of his “brilliant daughter” dating a divorced man like Seong Jae. Jin Seok is left devastated, struggling to comprehend the humiliation he’s just endured.
- Unable to give up on Su Bin, Seong Jae returns and kneels before Da Jung and Sang Cheol, sincerely pouring out his feelings. Despite his desperation, Da Jung remains unwavering in her refusal. Defeated, Seong Jae goes home and tells Jin Seok that Su Bin has broken up with him. Jin Seok is left completely speechless.

- Meanwhile, Woo Jin suddenly disappears from the hospital, sending Seong Hee into a panic. She frantically contacts Eun Oh and Yeong Ra, asking if either of them heard from him, but both claim they have no idea where he is. Growing increasingly unhinged, Seong Hee threatens Eun Oh and even storms into Eun Oh’s mother’s restaurant, vowing to destroy the family’s lives unless Woo Jin’s whereabouts are revealed. Eun Oh forcefully throws Seong Hee out, then follows her to confront her outside her home. As the two argue, Seong Jae arrives and witnesses them together. With everything he’s recently learned about Eun Oh’s biological mother and the horrific truth that she took Eun Oh’s liver, everything finally clicks. Seong Hee is Eun Oh’s mother. Cornered and exposed, Seong Hee realizes there’s no way out.
