Since the premiere of “Extraordinary Attorney Woo,” and everyone falling in love with Lee Jun Ho, there has been much talk about who the most “green flag” character in Korean drama is! Lee Jun Ho indeed deserves a lot of praise, and I agree that he raises the bar with each episode, but many other K-Drama green flag characters deserve the spotlight as well.
As a huge fan of Korean dramas, K-Drama men who are respectful, soft-spoken, and heartwarming are much more appealing to me than K-Drama men who are rude and bossy; so, I have prepared this list!
What is a Green Flag?
You’ve probably heard this expression a lot, but its meaning may not be completely clear to everyone. In a relationship, a “green flag” is a positive sign indicating two people are getting along well and respecting one another. K-Drama “green flag” characters, then, are those who are ideal for relationships!
Hwang Hee Tae of “Youth of May“
Hwang Hee Tae (Lee Do Hyun) from “Youth of May” is the first on the list since he is one of my favorite fictional characters. In every way, he fits the profile of the perfect boyfriend. The beautiful thing about him is that he’s not only a good partner but also a decent person in general. He is an activist and medical student, and he is always standing up for the correct thing to do.
What makes him the best boyfriend is how deeply he cares about Myung Hee. His words and actions conveyed so much love and care.
Seo Gong Myung of “Into the Ring“
Meet Seo Gong Myung (Park Sung Hoon), the underrated supportive boyfriend from the hidden gem drama, “Into the Ring“! Everyone has that one drama that they didn’t initially want to watch but quickly grew to adore, and that’s how I feel about this show.
Gong Myung is not your ordinary male character. Even though he was first shown as a cold person, we came to know him throughout the series as a beaten-down softie. To show his support for Se Ra (Nana), he offered to be her secretary, and that’s something I’ll never forget. This man is a rare breed in K-Dramas because he doesn’t feel threatened by the success of the female lead.
Choi Ung of “Our Beloved Summer”
In “Our Beloved Summer,” Choi Ung (Choi Woo Shik) is the very embodiment of a living, breathing green flag. We know him to be a careless individual, but he turns out to be a very lovely person. He’s the type of guy who, even when he’s having a hard time, makes an effort to comfort the people around him.
In addition, he’s the finest boyfriend ever since he’s patient, caring, and loving. He demonstrated, through his actions, that communication, mutual trust, and understanding are the foundations of a strong partnership.
Park Joon Young of “Do You Like Brahms“
I think a lot of people don’t know who Park Joon Young (Kim Min Jae) is and we have to change that. He is one of the most likable K-Drama characters ever created, and the fact that he has always been a green flag from the beginning is a huge plus.
He is considerate of others and always puts their needs before his own. As a boyfriend, he makes it a point to constantly reassure Song Ah (Park Eun Bin) of how much she means to him and how he will always be there for her if she needs him.
Haru of “Extra-ordinary You“
The fictional boyfriend Haru (SF9’s Rowoon), from “Extraordinary You,” is a character inside a fictional webtoon inside a fictional drama! This drama holds a very special place in my heart because I really love the drama’s concept of how the extra character is actually the main character!
What I admired most about Haru was that despite being new to the world and not knowing a lot of things, he made an effort to be someone whom Dan Oh could trust. He is able to make her happy because he truly gets her.
Im Eun Seob of “When The Weather is Fine”
I credit Eun Seob (Seo Kang Joon) for sparking my interest in soft-spoken K-Drama characters. A few years ago, when I watched this drama, I never thought I’d meet up with such a perfect man! Let me introduce him to you all.
Im Eun Seob is a soft-spoken, nice, considerate, and heartwarming introvert who’s running a bookstore in a rural town. He’s the warmest K-Drama character you’ll ever meet and he also runs a blog called “Goodnight Club” in which he discusses his day-to-day existence and his crush on the other main character, Irene.
Yoon Jae Seok of “Once Again“
Come meet Yoo Jae Seok (Lee Sang Yi), the extroverted boyfriend in “Once Again” who has complete faith and adoration for his partner. He’s the only second lead character in this list and that says so much about him because he’s really a one-of-a-kind character!
He’s the kind of guy who will befriend the person who has a crush on his girlfriend because he trusts her and knows she would not do anything to hurt him. He’s also been a supportive friend since Day 1 and proved that he’s one of the best K-Drama boyfriends to exist!
Kim Rae Wan of “You Drive Me Crazy“
I think you’d really like Kim Rae Wan (Kim Seon Ho) of “You Drive Me Crazy” if you’re a fan of the friends-to-lovers plot. Kim Seon Ho also portrayed another green flag character in the slice of life tvN drama “Hometown Cha-cha-cha!”
Kim Rae Wan is everyone’s man of dreams. He’s funny, sweet, and loved by everyone because of his warmhearted personality. Listening to her rants, soothing her, and just being there for her whenever she needs him are just a few examples of how he’s one of the best friends and boyfriends ever. In addition, he is a skilled cook and knows how to do makeup.
Dan of “Angel’s Last Mission: Love“
Dan (Kim Myung Soo) from “Angel’s Last Mission Love!” is one of my favorite fictional fantasy characters. He was initially shown as a playful figure, but as the story progressed, we saw that he would go to any lengths to protect Yeon Seo, and that alone was enough to win my heart. He was willing to risk his life for Yeonseo.
Ki Seon Gyeom of “Run On”
You can tell a female writer created Seon Gyeom (Im Si Wan) because he always says and does the absolute perfect things that every woman would love. Ki Seon Gyeom is the standard because he is courteous, gentle, a man of morals, respectful, and the sweetest, softest, and most heartwarming man ever.
Truth be told, there are still many more K-Drama green flag characters I want to name, but we’ll have to save that for next time! In the meantime, click over to KOCOWA and meet these lovely green flag characters yourself!
