Happy Mother’s Day, KOCONUTS!

Every year, Mother’s Day is one of the most celebrated events especially on KOCOWA+ since there are so many K-Dramas with great mothers and also bad mothers who are truly the star of some of our most memorable scenes!

The currently airing K-Drama, “My Perfect Stranger” (which I am obsessed with), is about the main lead, Yoon Young, accidentally going back in time and meeting her mother who is no longer with her in the present time. Happy to see her again, she becomes friends with her teenage mother to help her change her unhappy past.

Almost every one of these K-Dramas mentioned below has a storyline involving mothers or at least an extraordinary mother character, just like the mother character in “The Glory,” which received so much attention due to the realistic description of a bad mother.

But on the other hand, there are some mothers that are questionable or whom you just wish that your K-Drama oppas or unnies would run away from!

“The Penthouse” Cheon Seo Jin

SBS The Penthouse

How can we not talk about Cheon Seo Jin when talking about this topic. Cheon Soe Jin played by Kim So Yeon, still haunts me to this day, of course, due to the perfect portrayal by Kim So Yeon, but also the character herself was just wild. She was everything but nice and was a mix of devious, manipulative, and calculative, all hidden by a very fashionable exterior. She especially was obsessed with her daughter Eun Byul’s success because that tied in with her own reputation. But the karma hit her hard later on in this story and she ends up…SPOILER AHEAD…rotting behind bars.

“Three Bold Siblings” Young Sik’s Mom

KBS Three Bold Siblings

One of my favorite weekend dramas featuring Lim Ju Hwan, had this one character that was really annoying. Because of her, the solid relationship between the two families shattered. Sang Jun and Young Sik had a really close relationship until Young Sik ended up misunderstanding Sang Jun and his mother, which almost ruined Young Sik’s career. It was all because Young Sik’s mother did not care about her son’s well-being or career, she only cared about money.

“The Real Has Come!” Joo Hwa Ja

KBS The Real Has Come

This is a currently airing K-Drama that I am hooked on, and again, we have a toxic mother in the story, of course! Se Jin, played by Cha Joo Young, is one of the main villains though her mother is even more evil because all she cares about is money, money, money! Se Jin’s mother does not care about her daughter’s reputation or anything and even has her get married to a rich family. Even though, that didn’t go as well as planned, Se Jin and her mother will try and try until they get what they want.
