Meet The Characters

Choi Soo Young as Maeng Se Na

Choi Soo Young takes on the lead role of prominent lawyer Maeng Se Na, who suddenly finds herself proving the innocence of her ultimate bias after he is accused of murder. She is known as the “lawyer for villains” for taking on unpopular criminal cases that face public criticism, cases that others would normally avoid. She also has a side that nobody knows about, which is being an 11-year devoted fan of the band Gold Boys. When her idol becomes entangled in a strange murder case, she hides her fangirl identity, takes on his defense, and uncovers an unexpected truth.

Kim Jae Young as Do Ra Ik

Kim Jae Young plays Do Ra Ik, the visual center and vocalist of Gold Boys. He is admired by many for his “sparkling” life and is known as an “idol at max level” with flawless talent and personality. But behind his perfect public image lies a heavy burden from the love and expectations of fans, and the stage he once dreamed of no longer brings joy. After becoming a murder suspect of his band member overnight, he begins living as if there is no tomorrow.

Jung Jae Kwang as Kwak Byeong Gyun

Jung Jae Kwang stars as Kwak Byeong Gyun, a cold-blooded prosecutor and the fourth-generation only son of a long-respected legal family. He has an ill-fated connection with Maeng Se Na from their school days and reunites with her once again as they stand on opposite sides of Do Ra Ik’s murder case.

Reasons To Watch “IDOL I”

When we hear K-Dramas about idols and fangirls, we usually expect something full of glam, music shows, reality content, or the usual day-to-day idol life and fangirling we always see. But this is where “IDOL I” becomes different. Where else can you find a story about an idol being accused of murdering his own band member, and out of all the lawyers available, he ends up being defended by his fan of 11 years? Maeng Se Na went from failing to get a ticket to his concert to becoming his defense attorney.

This dynamic is also far from the usual lawyer–suspect relationship we see in thriller K-Dramas. Here, the lawyer is a devoted fan who has followed him for 11 years, so she knows every little detail about him and can instantly tell if he is lying. A lot of us can relate to this, because we also watch everything our idols appear in. It is also refreshing to see the usual male–female roles flipped, with the female lead looking like the strong and reliable hero every time the male lead gets into danger.

Since she becomes his defense attorney, the drama will naturally give us funny and chaotic moments, including them living under the same roof. And of course, Do Ra Ik cannot know that she is his fan of 11 years, so imagine all the awkward situations and all the things Maeng Se Na has to hide and avoid because of him!

And for those who might forget, Choi Soo Young is a successful idol turned actress from the Nation’s Girl Group, Girls’ Generation. She has starred in multiple dramas and films like “Fanletter, Please” and “New Year Blues.” Kim Jae Young is a rising actor known for his role in “Beautiful Love, Wonderful Life.”

“IDOL I” promises to give us everything we want, from heart-fluttering romance to relatable fangirl moments to thrilling courtroom scenes as the murder case unfolds.
