Remember those days when schools are still open? It’s only been a few months since the coronavirus outbreak began, but it seems like a faraway dream to even hang out with friends at school. Oh, those ordinary, mundane days.

If you miss school already, we have a new high school drama for you!

What is this new drama “How to Buy A Friend” about?

Rumors surround Heo Don-Hyuk (Played by Shin Seung-Ho) after his ex-girlfriend’s shocking suicide case. The boy becomes quick to throw a punch at anyone as soon as he hears his girlfriend’s name, landing him in juvenile detention. After getting released, he returns to school and spots a poem, written by another student Park Chan-Hong (Played by Lee Sin-Young), which he thinks could be a clue to his ex-girlfriend’s sudden death.

He asks to make a deal with Chan-Hong–Don-Hyuk wants Chan-Hong to help him find out what happened to his ex-girlfriend and in return, he protects Chan-Hong from his bully.

Who are the characters?

Park Chan-Hong (Played by Lee Sin-Young)

He doesn’t have something that he’s particularly good at or something that he’s particularly bad at.

His height and weight, even his grades, make him nothing more than an average South Korean high school student.

His nickname is “Ninja” because he’s everywhere but he lacks presence, so much so that bullies don’t even notice him. But everything began to change when an unexpected opportunity to write poetry came to him. He began falling in love for the first time (with a girl named Eom Se-Yun), while the bully in class Kim Dae-Young (Played by Lee Jung-Hyun) began noticing him. And because of that, Chan-Hong made a deal with Heo Don-Hyuk which gets him involved in the shocking suicide case in school.

Heo Don-Hyuk (Played by Shin Seung-Ho)

He’s nicknamed to be “Iron Man.” He’s widely known among high school students as a legendary fighter.

A year ago, his ex-girlfriend Shin Seo-Jung (Played by Cho Yi-Hyun) took her own life. After her death, he lived with guilt because he didn’t believe in her while she was alive. He also beat up people who mocked her death and was locked up in juvenile detention because of that. After his release, he went back to school to investigate Seo-Jung’s death. By chance, he spots a poem written by Chan-Hong.

Eom Se-Yun (Played by Kim So-Hye)

For 12 years, she’s known as the prettiest girl in the city. She also has good grades.

Every boy in school loves her, but none has the guts to confess to her because she’s too good for any of them.

But that’s all how it looks like as an onlooker. Se-Yun is just another ordinary girl who has been wanting to get into art school, but is afraid that her parents might get upset over it. The person whom she chose to show that hidden side of herself to, is not the popular student in school, Don-Hyuk, or the bully Dae-Young, but the average student Chan-Hong.
