You don’t have to wait till it’s time to look for some Halloween costumes before snuggling under your blankets at night to watch some scary Korean dramas!
Before you go on, just know that it’s completely fine to leave the lights on before going to bed! But just for a night, alright? Let’s also be Earth-friendly!
1. The Ghost Detective (2018)
MAIN LEADS: Daniel Choi, Park Eun Bin, Lee Ji Ah.
PLOT: Jung Yeo Wool (Park Eun Bin)’s sister died a month ago. Everyone around her says her sister committed suicide, but she doesn’t believe so. She runs into private investigator Lee Da Il (Daniel Choi) one day, and invites him to seek out the truth with her.
WATCH THIS FOR: Its unexpected, thrilling plot twists. It’s almost close to impossible to predict what’s going to happen next! The drama also has intriguing supporting characters such as Gil Chae Won (Lee Joo Young) who has an interesting side to her, and a really scary, wicked “ghost in red dress” Sun Woo Hye (Lee Ji Ah) that could send chills down your spine.

2. The Village: Achiara’s Secret (2015)
MAIN LEADS: Moon Geun Young, Yook Sung Jae, On Joo Wan, Shin Eun Kyung.
PLOT: Han So Yoon (Moon Geun Young) arrives in the mysterious Achiara village as a new teacher in the village school. On her first day in school, she finds a buried corpse. Rumors spread like wildfire as the villagers begin speculating that the dead person is Kim Hye Jin (Jang Hee Jin) who teaches painting. So Yoon works together with rookie policeman Park Woo Jae (Yook Sung Jae) to search for the truth. As the investigation goes on, more people become suspects and the case gets more complicated than it seems.
WATCH THIS FOR: Its mystery-filled murder case that makes almost everyone in the village suspicious. The horror elements in the drama are a great addition to the story. It plays on the psychological state of the characters, hinting that it might all be in their head. But at the same time, it could very well be a ghost trying to tell them something…

I’ll admit that Korean horror dramas are less traumatizing, if we compare them to the most famous horror movies that exist to traumatize and haunt people for WEEKS (we don’t want that to happen anyway.) Still, if you think you’re really sensitive, I recommend watching these with a friend or family member!
What is your go-to scary Korean drama to send some chills running down your spine?
HAPPY KOCOWEEN!
