K-Dramas have always been my go-to hobby. I make sure that I watch at least 1 episode per day no matter what mood I am in because it has a lot of variety. One of the strengths of K-Dramas is how it can offer a lot of genres from romance, comedy, thriller, crime, melodrama, and a LOT MORE.
If I choose one of my favorites, it would be the fantasy genre! Don’t you love the feeling of encountering new stuff and cool information that brings you into a new world and concepts? That’s the thing I love most about Fantasy K-Dramas! I love learning new things about supernatural elements, and it amazes me how these writers can come up with these concepts! I have watched a lot, so I want to share these best fantasy K-Dramas that I think a lot of people will enjoy!
“Kairos“
If there’s one fantasy K-Drama that you need to watch, I think that would be the MBC fantasy thriller “Kairos.” It’s a well-written drama from the start to the end and let me talk about the plot. It follows the story of a woman living a precarious life and how she received a mysterious phone call from a man claiming he’s 31 days iin the future! And the thing that amazes me the most is that they can only call or receive texts from each other at precisely 10:33 PM!
The premise already looks exciting, right? I assure you that watching “Kairos” will be worth your time because every moment will keep you on the edge of your seat because of the twists! And let’s also look at the main casts: Shin Sung Rok, Lee Se Young, Ahn Bo Hyun, Kang Seung Yoon, and more, so you won’t have to worry about the acting because we all know they are excellent actors!
“Angel’s Last Mission: Love“
Another excellent fantasy K-Drama I highly recommend is Shin Hae Sun and Kim Myung Soo’s (Infinite L) romantic comedy “Angel’s Last Mission: Love.” I’m a sucker for bickering K-Drama couples with fantastic chemistry, and this drama has it! The two proved it by winning the best couple at the “2019 KBS Drama Awards.”
A one-of-a-kind story between a cold-hearted woman who hit the lowest point and how she met an immature and mischievous angel who changed her life. This fantasy romcom will melt your heart for the main couple’s story because their love is unconditional.
And a fun fact about Shin Hae Sun in this drama is she learned how to do ballet and nailed her role well as the best ballerina. Shin Hae Sun’s dedication to her craft will always make her special.
“While You Were Sleeping“
A personal favorite fantasy K-Drama is the mystery romance “While You Were Sleeping.” I think a lot of people are already familiar with this drama, but to those who are not, let me explain why it is a much-watched drama!
First, it stars Lee Jong Suk, Bae Suzy, and Jung Hae In. YES, SUCH A POWERFUL CASTING LINEUP. Second, it’s a well-written drama and has a fantastic concept! It’s about people who can foresee the future through their dreams. It is a story about unknown heroes who use their unique abilities to save others from tragedy.
One more thing, I love how this drama offers different side stories every episode, so you won’t get bored of watching it because everything that happens is connected to the main lead’s story.
“Tomorrow”
One of the most loved ongoing K-Dramas is Kim Hee Sun, Rowoon, and Lee Soo Hyuk’s fantasy thriller “Tomorrow.” The drama deals with heavy topics, such as suicide, and is centered around grim reapers trying to save suicidal people.
One of the reasons the drama is gaining a lot of love is that it’s a fast-paced drama that offers different stories in almost every episode. We get to meet new characters that help the lead, and also, everyone has intriguing pasts, so you are excited to know what happens next!
“Extra-ordinary You“
A high school teenage fantasy drama close to my heart is Kim Hye Yoon and Rowoon’s “Extra-ordinary You“! When I first watched the first episode of this drama, I was amazed at the concept: An extra character who’s set to die, but she became aware that she’s just a webtoon character and now wants to defy her fate.
Romantic comedy + fantasy is the genre everyone can enjoy. Kim Hye Yoon and Rowoon’s chemistry are top-notch, and they also have the cutest height differences! If you’re looking for a fun fantasy romantic comedy K-drama, then “Extra-ordinary You” is for you!
“My Love From the Star”
One of the best K-Dramas of all time is Jun Ji Hyun and Kim Soo Hyun’s fantasy romantic comedy “My Love From the Star” which follows the story of an alien who came to earth 400 years ago and begins a romance with a stuck-up A-list Korean actress.
When I first watched this K-Drama a few years ago, I didn’t expect it to grow on me. Kim Soo Hyun and Jun Ji Hyun literally set the standard for this drama, and it’s my go-to drama whenever I’m feeling down. Jun Ji Hyun’s portrayal of the female lead, Chun Sung Yi, is one of the most iconic K-Drama characters.
“Go Back Couple”
Son Ho Jun and Jang Na Ra’s “Go Back Couple” is a good fantasy romantic comedy K-Drama full of lessons about love, friends, marriage, parenthood, and family.
Usually, K-Dramas end with the main couple getting married, so what makes this drama unique is it’s the opposite. The main couple is already married, but it doesn’t mean that what they have is a happy ending. A wholesome drama about a married couple who wake up to find themselves as 20-year-old university students.
I really love how “Go Back Couple” shows us what people went through when they got married and how they added a little bit of fantasy and comedy to make it entertaining. A drama that teaches us to live life without any regrets
“My Girlfriend is a Gumiho“
One of the classic fantasy K-Dramas that I enjoyed watching is Shin Min Ah and Lee Seung Gi’s “My Girlfriend is a Gumiho.” This was the first time I encountered a gumiho (a legendary fox with nine tails).
The drama was written by the popular veteran writers Hong Sisters! It’s really an exciting drama about a man and a nine-tailed fox who made a deal that she’ll lend him her mystical fox bead and in exchange, he’ll help her become human. By spending a lot of time together, the two got to know each other and formed a sweet relationship as time passed!
Shin Min Ah as a gumiho is so entertaining. She’s really THAT kind of best actress, and her chemistry with Lee Seung Gi is one of the best!
Many more fantasy K-Dramas deserve more hype and appreciation, and let’s watch all of them on KOCOWA!
