Recently, there’s a rookie actor slowly gaining traction! Kim Young Dae, a model-turned-actor, is also known to be Kang Dong Won’s lookalike. He made his debut as an actor in 2018 through a minor role in the drama “Office Watch 2” and rapidly grew his presence in dramas.

This year, our rising star just turned 24, but already has a few notable dramas under his belt! Let us introduce you to some of them!

Cheat On Me, If You Can

Kim Young Dae plays a spy named Cha Soo Ho, who has the perfect balance between competence and clumsiness. Soo Ho is tasked to spy on Kang Yeo Joo (Cho Yeo Jeong), a murder mystery novelist who seems to be out of the ordinary starting with her peculiar personality. For one, whenever she studies a person’s outfit, the first thing that comes to her mind is–where one could hide a weapon? Could it be under that long, puffy dress or under the soles of that pair of brightly-colored high-heels?

Soo Ho doesn’t understand why he should spy on her but does it anyway, albeit rather clumsily. Without more information from his superior, he has no idea what he should look for so he runs around like a headless chicken, trying hard to make a discovery. But whenever he does, his superior stops him from investigating further.

All he’s left to do is take note of her favorite brand of canned beer and chips. He even boasts to his newly assigned partner that he knows Yeo Joo likes drinking her beer with a straw, only to be dumbfounded when she revealed that she had memorized all 6 novels written by Yeo Joo.Soo Ho gets hired as Yeo Joo’s assistant and brings her favorite beer with a straw when she needs it, remembers her habits in detail, then begins buying the same canned beer and packet of chips that she likes for himself without realizing–wait… is he spying on her or falling for her?

The Penthouse

In this hit drama, Kim Young Dae plays a rather arrogant and rebellious high school student named Joo Suk Hoon. He has a twin sister that he adores, and would do anything to protect and defend her. He helps his sister get to the top of the class by cheating, he volunteers himself to get beaten up by his father on her behalf, and continues to defend his sister despite her wrongdoings.

Suk Hoon is no innocent boy either. He knows that he can get away with anything because of his family’s wealth . Hence, he doesn’t hesitate to bully his peers with the help of his clique. That’s until he meets the love of his life.

Extra-ordinary You

Kim Young Dae was nominated for the Best New Actor award at the 2019 MBC Drama Awards with this role!

All characters in “Extra-ordinary You” live in a comic book about high school students, and Kim Young Dae’s character, Oh Nam Joo, is no exception. Oh Nam Joo is your cookie-cutter rich, arrogant and overbearing male lead who just happens to fall for a poor but kind-hearted girl. Like your typical male lead, he’s always appearing at the right time to save the damsel in distress.

Everything he does just happens to work out well for him. But this, however, annoys all the other characters who slowly gain self-awareness. As they begin to learn that they are merely pieces of chess that have no control over themselves, they realize that the story revolves only around Nam Joo and they are forced to live their lives for him. Even more frustrating for all involved, Nam Joo gets to breeze through everything as things just fall into place for him. This leads to a few of them becoming increasingly sick of this boy who has no idea what’s going on.

Have you guys streamed these dramas? For me, I became a huge fan after seeing his character on “The Penthouse!” Which of Kim Young Dae’s roles attracts you the most so far?
