As someone who’s into Korean culture, I can’t help but notice the sudden surge of dating reality shows these past few months.
I’m a massive fan of K-Dramas and K-Pop, and after discovering the NETFLIX dating reality show “Single’s Inferno,” I found how intriguing and fun Korean love reality shows are! I remembered that when I first watched the show, I told myself I would only check out the first episode, but I got hooked and couldn’t stop watching! Thanks to that show, I got the chance to meet fantastic love reality programs that I will share with you now!
Current Airing Love Reality Programs
There are a lot of Korean dating shows that are airing right now. It’s amazing how none of the concepts overlap with one another!
Starting with the hyper-realistic dating program, “I am Solo“. It’s a different experience because single men and women are invited to the Solo World! It’s exciting to watch because we get to see how singles show off their charms to find their partner and date on this real dating program.
Probably the most unique concept I have seen in any Korean dating program can be found in “Love Mafia!” What I love most about this dating show is how they mixed it with the mafia game concept (the mafia game is a very popular game in South Korea where the player’s guests are the mafia)!
The show is set in Love School, where single men and women come searching for true love, but the twist is – real-life couples are hiding among them, and they should not match with a mafia couple if they want to win 10,000 dollars! If they do, the mafia couple gets the money!
“First Love, Again” is a variety show that will provide couples who had to break up and walk away from their first loves, a second chance to fall in love again! I think a lot of people will like this one! A thrilling romance reality show about our first loves…I know this kind of precious memory will put a smile on our faces!
The show will help the cast reunite and meet their first loves again by gathering together at a rented house with fresh memories, excitement, and regrets, and face true love after a long time!
One of the most loved ongoing Korean dating shows right now is “Change Days 2,” thanks to the popularity of the first season. If you’re familiar with the American Netflix show “Ultimatum,” I think you will like this show!
“Change Days 2” introduces us to four new couples going on a two-week trip! The participants will switch partners and will have to go through various missions and conversations with the new partners! They will have the chance, during this show, to stay in their original relationship or to choose a new partner!
A New Korean Dating Show About Ex-Lovers?
There’s this new Korean dating show that got my attention! It’s about ex-lovers who go on a love reality show and recall their breakup to start over again! It is an interesting concept, right? Isn’t an ex-lover supposed to be part of your past, and we must move on from them?
I think this is why many of us would check out this show because we will be curious about who and what kind of people the participants are. Korean dating shows cast the best, most unique, and most exciting people, so I am sure that it will be entertaining!
“Love Recall” is a new dating reality program about ex-lovers who regret their breakups and are full of lingering emotions. To avoid repeating the same breakup, the former couples, who dream of a recall, are confronted at the Recall Table for the first time after the breakup! The contestants will be guided by the Recall Planners: Sung Yu Ri, Yang Se Hyeong, Jang Young Ran, Son Dong Woon, GREE, and Choi Ye Na, who will listen to each participant’s story on breakup, love, and reunion.
I think this new love dating show will be so interesting and will be discussed often on social media! It’s exciting to know whether they will succeed in the recall and to hear compelling stories about each couple!
Why Are There So Many Romance Shows?
To provide a personal opinion, I think this is mostly because of the pandemic. Due to COVID and the long battle with the virus, many people struggled to get back where they left off before it started. From Friday night out to weekend trips with your friends, the littlest things that made a fruitful life were all unwillingly taken away.
Having to miss out on human interactions for so long is so hard; So, maybe to provide a vicarious living or even a little emotional satisfaction, the broadcasters started to produce reality shows like the ones listed above. Because, from my personal perspective, I believe these shows sometimes do really give the feelings of jitters, anger, and the thrill that you can only experience encountering human beings. Maybe not all the time, but it does give an actual impact. The only downside is that these shows made me want to fall in love even more!! LOL! What do you guys think?
Also, Korean dating shows can be a real-life K-Drama because they are so raw, and we will see what’s happening without a script. If you want a different romantic experience, I highly recommend you check out these Korean dating shows on KOCOWA!
