People who are successful in their own fields join the variety show “Master in The House” as masters. Most share their life experiences while still making things entertaining. And at times, it gets more than just entertaining as they scrap through the surface and go even deeper to discuss topics most would avoid.
“The weight of your passed time.” (Episodes 13 & 14 with Master BoA)
Everyone has different views on what maturity is. Master BoA says immaturity is being stubborn, to keep trying out everything we can try. Lee Seung-Gi debates by saying that people have to be mature so we don’t cause problems to the society or break the laws. Here, Yook Sung-Jae brings up veteran actors, such as Actor Choi Bool-Am, and relates maturity to age.
BoA then talks about the way these veteran celebrities speak, and how their words carry weight even when they aren’t do anything special. She lowers her head as she thinks that her experience and words are extremely shallow compared to theirs.
But Lee Sang-Yoon thinks different.
He says these can be seen through each and every dance move of hers. And that is her very own weight of her passed time.
The time we have used doing something and the experiences we have gone through, all these may seem shallow compared to others, but they aren’t worthless. They all carry the weight of our passed time.
“What’s wrong with him?” is the beginning of creativity. (Episodes 58 & 59 with Master Yoo Se-Yoon)
It’s a common thing for people to avoid being too different from others. But again, there’s nothing wrong with it because creativity begins from there.
The members are in disbelief when Master Yoo Se-Yoon tells the members to act like little oddballs and that the members would succeed if they have people cringe and ask, “What’s wrong with him?”
The comedian explains that it’s the beginning of creativity. It’s about making others curious about the reason behind their actions.
“I’ll pick my death portrait now.” (Episodes 44 & 45 with Master Kim Soo-Mi)
Master Kim Soo-Mi has already decided. She has picked the death portrait that she’s going to use and the kind of funeral she might want to have. You might ask, “Is she looking forward to her end?” No. In fact, she wants to live longer.
To most, making our lives fulfilling while we are alive is the top priority. Kim Soo-Mi agrees with that too, but she thinks that the end is just as important. And she wants the end to be her way.
“We don’t have that many years left.” (Episodes 64 & 65 with Master Yang Hee-Eun)
Realistically, Lee Sang-Yoon is well aware that his parents won’t be around forever. But still, he has included them in his plans far in the future, which leaves his parents reminding him that they don’t actually have that many years left.
Only then, he realizes that he hasn’t really considered the number of years left with them.
In response to that, Master Yang Hee-Eun tells the members that she always thinks about how much time she has left with her mother. She wants to cherish all the time that’s left so she won’t regret only after her mother is gone.
I would say “Master in the House” stands out from the other variety shows! They talk about interesting life experiences and share perspectives that may leave us thinking for the rest of the day.
