Christmas is just around the corner! Have you picked out a Christmas gift for yourself yet? If you were given an opportunity to meet your favorite Korean celebrity for Christmas, who would it be? The Koreans have expressed who they would want to meet by voting in a poll!
This year, TNmS (a ratings company in Korea that measures television viewer ratings and conducts surveys) did a survey asking Koreans which celebrity they would want to meet this Christmas. Out of 2,900 people over the age of 20 (with 580 people equally divided in each age group), 766 people responded to the survey question over the span of 2 days: “Which celebrity would you want to meet as a surprise Christmas gift?”
Yu Jae Seok turned out to be the most popular choice among all ages, followed by Gong Yoo coming in second, IU in third place, Im Young Woong in fourth place, and BTS ranking fifth.
Looking at different age groups individually, the results differ slightly. IU and Kim Seon Ho were at the top spot for people in their 20s. IU was also the most popular choice among people in their 30s. For people in their 40s, Gong Yoo topped the results, while Im Young Woong and Na Hoon Ah took the first place among people in their 50s and 60s respectively (Kim, 2020).
Last year, a similar poll of 9,058 people was conducted by online academy Seven Edu which took place over a month, from Nov 25 to Dec 22. The online academy asked its participants: “Which celebrity would you want to spend Christmas Eve with?”
Kang Daniel was ranked first with 44.4 percent of people voting for him, Lee Seung Gi at second with 32.2 percent, Park Bo Gum at third with 17.9 percent and Gong Yoo at fourth with 2.4 percent (Lee, 2019).
In 2018, the same online academy, Seven Edu, conducted another identical poll of 573 people. The results of the poll: Park Bo Gum took the top spot with 24.6 percent, EXO’s DO came in second with 17.8 percent, BTS V ranked third with 16.8 percent, Wanna One’s Kang Daniel placed fourth with 11.5 percent, and Jung Hae In came in fifth with 8.9 percent (Seon, 2018).
