[DISCLAIMER: SPOILERS AHEAD!]
Would we be able to use our modern life experiences to solve problems faced back in those times if we travel back in time?
Apparently, two modern female leads have traveled back in time and showed how they can do it!
Yoo Eun-Soo from “The Great Doctor” (Kim Hee-Sun)
A competent plastic surgeon, probably in her thirties.
1. Complaining to the right person.
PROBLEM: Yoo Eun-Soo is having problems adapting to life without delicious food and kimchi.
She begins by saying how she doesn’t usually complain and strategically directs her complaint to the right person. Eventually, she did get what she wanted which solved her problem.
2. “I hate that kind of style.”
PROBLEM: Yoo Eun-Soo hates layering her clothes.
We all have different styles we prefer.
Yoo Eun-Soo stays faithful to that by explaining how she doesn’t like layering her clothes and goes for the “bold” style.
3. Collecting “antiques” and making friends with them…?
PROBLEM: Having no one trustworthy to confide in.
Similar to the modern world we are living in, it’s never easy to find someone trustworthy to talk to.
But Yoo Eun-Soo isn’t disheartened by that. She collects Goryeo celadon ceramics that can grow in value with time and talks to them about her troubles.
4. “Because you’re rude!”
PROBLEM: Someone acting extremely rude towards Yoo Eun-Soo.
Gi Cheol (Yu Oh-Seong) offends Yoo Eun-Soo by saying mean words to her. Well, he should’ve known that people from the future definitely are not to be trifled with.
Yoo Eun-Soo makes him regret immediately by telling him that she won’t let him know how he’s going to die in the future. A fair game, it is.
Jang Dan-Bi from “Splash Splash Love” (Kim Seul-Gi)
A 19-year-old high school student.
5. Remembering what you’ve learned from historical dramas.
PROBLEM: Jang Dan-Bi appears out of nowhere in the palace and is at risk of being treated as a suspicious person.
Watching historical dramas has paid off well. With several swords pointing at her neck, she quickly recalls how shamans in historical dramas call for rain and imitates them to get away.
6. Don’t bother explaining what a rice triangle is to the people who belong to that time period.
PROBLEM: Modern food being neglected by its time-traveling owner.
Jang Dan-Bi brought a whole bag of mysterious items from the modern world, and one of them includes a delicious rice triangle, which she left with the king without explaining what it is.
A cannonball. A cannonball is what the king assumed it to be.
It’s a waste of food, but at least, no one other than the owner would get to enjoy such delicious food.
7. Slap the king on his forehead. Because, when would you get such a valuable chance?
PROBLEM: The king orders Jang Dan-Bi to teach her Mathematics and she wants him to learn quickly.
Jang Dan-Bi punishes the king by slapping his forehead for getting it wrong.
Anyway, the worst that could happen is just… people pointing their swords at her throat.
8. Learning to ride a horse from a Korean pop song.
PROBLEM: Not knowing how to ride a horse.
Depending on the time period, the skill to ride a horse could be essential. But it’s not going to be difficult.
Jang Dan-Bi who loves singing recalls the popular Korean pop song “Oppa Gangnam Style” and mastered the way to ride a horse almost instantly.
