Shortly after celebrating his 25th birthday, Yook Sung-Jae announced to his fans that he was enlisting in South Korea’s mandatory military duty on May 11.
The popular BtoB member, actor and MC said he gave his decision a lot of thought, but the timing seemed right. He is following in the footsteps of his band members Seo Eun-Kwang, who was discharged on April 7, 2020; Lee Chang-Sub, who enlisted on January 14, 2019; and Lee Min-Hyuk, who entered the military on February 7, 2019. Coincidentally, Im Hyun-Sik also enlisted on the same day as Yook.
He told his fans that he was confident that he would have a positive mindset regardless of where he was and that he would return to them healthy and happy.
Yook is well known for his kind heart. Over the years, he has donated money to many organizations to benefit needy children, schools and indigent people who need briquettes to help keep their homes warm.
Many South Korean idols are multi-talented not only at singing and dancing, but also at emceeing and comedy. Yook showed off his emcee skills on “My Little Old Boy” (Episode 180), when he appeared as a guest MC.
He also gave fans a taste of what kind of husband he would make when he “wed” Red Velvet‘s Joy on the “We Got Married.” Their chemistry was off the charts and fans loved them both. At the 2015 MBC Entertainment Awards, the idols won the Best Couple Award. He also won a solo award for Best Male Newcomer.
Yook has also appeared on “Master in the House” since 2017, where he was the little brother to his fellow cast members Lee Seung-Gi, Shin Seong-Rok, Yang Se-Hyeong and Lee Sang-Yun.
Preparing for his military enlistment, Yook bid farewell to “Master in the House” a few weeks ago.
Yook’s latest K-Drama “Mystic Pop-up Bar” — where he plays a character named Han Kang-Bae — is his goodbye gift to his fans. You can find some of his previous work right here on KOCOWA:
“The Village: Achiara’s Secret”
