K-Pop idols are multi-talented. Not only can they sing, dance, and aegyo like no other— many are also fantastic actors. EXO’s D.O. (aka Do Kyung Soo) is a perfect example of this. Over the years, he’s become a respected actor by challenging himself with unique roles across various genres. His first breakout role was in 2014’s “It’s Okay, That’s Love” alongside veterans like Jo In Sung and Gong Hyo Jin, and he’s been wowing us ever since.
Most recently D.O. will be starring in a movie called “The Moon”. It’s about an astronaut named Hwang Seon Woo (played by D.O.) who gets stranded on the moon after his spacecraft malfunctions. Amidst the chaos, the operation’s former managing director Dr. Kim (Sol Kyung Gu) is tasked to bring him home safely. The premise sounds suspenseful, and since D.O.’s character is trapped in space alone, a big part of the movie is going to depend on his performance. It reminds me of similar movies like “The Martian” starring Matt Damon and “Gravity” starring Sandra Bullock.
If D.O. plays his cards right, “The Moon” could smash box office records and get him a lot of awards. People are already heavily anticipating it. It’ll be released in 155 countries starting August 9th. That’s amazing as far as pre-sales go! Audiences in the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the U.S. will get to watch D.O. shine.
“The Moon” will be directed by Kim Yong Hwa, who is known for directing the beloved “200 Pounds Beauty” and “Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds” and its sequel. With such a stellar cast and director, will “The Moon” become the next “Parasite”? I guess we’ll have to find out in August. The movie will be released on the 18th in the U.S. and Canada. Until then, you can appreciate D.O.’s acting by binging his dramas on KOCOWA+.
