Since I enjoyed Park Ji Hoon and Choi Hyun Wook previous dramas, “Weak Hero Class 1” was on my must-watch list. The drama premiered last November 18 and it was only last night that I started watching the first episode and I didn’t expect that I’ll binge-watched the first season of this drama in one day!
If you haven’t watched “Weak Hero Class 1,” you’re missing out on a lot. I checked out almost 40 K-dramas this year, and I can confidently say that it’s one of the best I have seen this 2022. Now that I’ve seen all 8 episodes, I’ll explain why this high school thriller is a 10/10 drama! To anyone worried about spoilers, don’t worry this is a spoiler-free review so this is perfect for those wanting to check out this drama.
1. A high school thriller based on a popular webtoon
“Weak Hero Class 1” is a high school thriller series that follows the story of a top student who doesn’t care about anything else rather than studying. It’s a story of how he started making friends and how they fight violence inside and outside of school. It’s based on a popular webtoon of the same name!
Most high school dramas we watched are usually romance-centered, right? So that’s what sets apart “Weak Hero Class 1” from other high school dramas we’ve watched before. If you had watched “Extracurricular,” it has the same vibes as this one but it’s a lot crazier and more intense which had me on the edge of my seat the whole time I was watching it.
2. A binge-able fast-paced K-drama with amazing plot development
“Weak Hero Class 1” only has 8 episodes that have a runtime of 35-40 minutes each so it’s really binge-able to watch. I watched this only for 1 day and I completely lost track of time while watching.
The reason why this high school thriller is a 10/10 drama is that it’s been a long time since I watched a drama that is consistently good from the start to the end. Since it’s a fast-paced drama, I really enjoyed the plot development because you can really see how everything piled up to the end because of their actions in the previous episodes. Like I’m still in awe after watching the last episode because you won’t really expect what will happen next until you’re watching it!
3. Insane acting from the main leads
I’m not exaggerating when I say that Park Ji Hoon, Choi Hyun Wook, and Hong Kyung played their respective roles perfectly. To put it simply, they are rising actors who have established themselves as the next big things in K-drama with the success of this show.
I have always been a fan of Park Ji Hoon ever since “Love Revolution” and “At a Distance, Spring is Green” but in this drama, he showed something we’ve never seen before. He really embodied the top and quiet student Si Eun and I have nothing but praise for his acting, especially in the first and last episodes.
Choi Hyun Wook and Hong Kyung also ate up their characters. Like this drama wouldn’t be this good if it weren’t for their amazing portrayal. I swear all three of them deserve an award!
4. The friendship arc
I really believe that the friendship arc is one of the important themes of “Weak Hero Class 1.” Si Eun (Park Ji Hoon) is a reserved model student who only cares about studying. When bullies start ganging up on him, he found Soo Ho (Choi Hyun Wook) and Bum Seok (Hong Kyung) helping him, and the three of them formed an unlikely relationship to combat the bullying.
If this is an ordinary high school drama, the three will be together until the end HOWEVER that’s where this drama surprised me and I don’t want to spoil more details so you have to watch the drama and understand why I said that their friendship is very integral to this drama.
5. Satisfying high school thriller with interesting characters
As I said, this is not your ordinary high school drama because it focuses on school violence and it was so satisfying watching the bullies get what they deserve. I thought it was brilliant how they presented Si Eun as a student who initially appears to be physically weak but who can fight back using his intellect. Soo Ho then helped him to fight bullies since he’s a great fighter and Bum Seok is a great addition to the two.
Why is “Weak Hero Class 1” a 10/10 Drama?

“Weak Hero Class 1” is really an amazing drama from start to end, especially with the ending with how Si Eun ended up in a new school with bullies but now, he knows how to handle them after meeting Soo Ho and Bum Seok. This is why I said the friendship arc is one of the highlights of this drama since Si Eun became a different person when he found friends who can understand him. That’s why he felt super devastated when Soo Ho went into a coma and Bum Seok betrayed them since he really considered the two as friends who made him feel important. Meeting them really changed his life and that’s why I believe Season 2 is highly possible.

I’m really speechless after watching the last episode. Si Eun really went all out with his revenge and the final episode will really linger around me for a long time. It’s written and directed well and I hope more people will discover this amazing drama because it really deserves all the appreciation and hype.
