Reasons To Watch “Be Melodramatic” on KOCOWA+

1. Slice of Life Female-Centric Drama Centered Around The Film Industry

I think we can all agree that slice-of-life is a superior genre. The drama revolves around three powerful women who are friends and work in the film industry. Im Jin Joo (Chun Woo Hee) is a writer embarking on her first opportunity to write a 16-episode television series. Lee Eun Jung (Jeon Yeo Been) is a successful documentary filmmaker still grappling with the loss of her fiancé to cancer. Meanwhile, Hwang Han Joo (Han Ji Eun) is a single mother employed at a marketing and production company. A notable aspect of the drama is its progressive portrayal of these three dynamic female leads, each excelling in her own way.

It’s rare to find a well-crafted romantic comedy that uses a ‘drama within a drama’ concept as effectively as this show. The entire 16 episodes unfold like the production of a drama itself, executed with brilliance.

2. Main Couple is a Writer and Director

I think it’s really brilliant how the main couple in this series is a writer and director as they are the backbones of a Korean drama. Through them, we got to witness the intricate process of producing a K-drama, from the conception of an idea by the writer to casting choices and the eventual broadcast. Additionally, the couple exhibits maturity in handling their relationship.

3. Loveable Supporting Characters

“Be Melodramatic” stands out not only for its focus on the main characters but also for its number of supporting characters who add richness to the storyline. Alongside the main couples, the drama introduces several captivating supporting couples, each with their own compelling narratives that will leave us rooting for their stories and emotionally invested in their journeys.

One of the remarkable aspects of slice-of-life dramas is their refusal to paint anyone as a pure antagonist. Recognizing the complexities of human nature, the drama portrays its characters with depth, acknowledging their flaws while emphasizing their humanity. Even characters with negative traits are depicted as multifaceted individuals, reminding viewers of the inherent complexities of life.

4. 10/10 K-Drama Material

“Be Melodramatic” offers viewers an insider’s look into the production of K-Dramas and the dedicated individuals working behind the scenes. It’s the kind of show that fosters a deeper appreciation for the creative talents responsible for bringing these stories to life, from the writers and directors to the entire production team.

It’s such a feel-good heartwarming drama about friendship, love, and the challenges of adulthood. While it may start off slowly, it quickly proves itself to be a one-of-a-kind gem that shouldn’t be missed. Grounded in reality, the series strikes a perfect balance between maturity and humor, presenting relatable situations without excessive dramatization. The well-timed comedy and exceptional performances by the cast add layers of depth to the bittersweet themes of the narrative.

Additionally, “Be Melodramatic” has a great OST lineup. Even if you haven’t watched this drama you must have heard of the ‘Shampoo OST’ by Jang Beom June.

More than just a romantic comedy, “Be Melodramatic” offers a refreshing perspective on the genre, thanks to its well-crafted storyline. It’s a drama that resonates long after the final episode, leaving a lasting impact on those who have experienced its beautiful storytelling. With each episode, the drama maintains its momentum, delivering a consistently engaging and memorable viewing experience.

“Be Melodramatic” arrives on KOCOWA+ this March, offering us the chance to immerse ourselves in its captivating narrative by binge-watching all 16 episodes. Don’t miss out on this extraordinary gem!
