The ability to remember things well has always been admired and praised. But think about it this way, what if that’s because the individual lacks the ability to forget? Would it be viewed differently?

The male protagonist of this drama “Find Me in Your Memory” would want you to see it differently, or even, in a negative way. Lee Jung-Hoon (Kim Dong-Wook) is a news anchor who suffers from hyperthymesia–an extremely rare condition in which an individual possesses superior autobiographical memory, in short, an inability to forget.

Jung-Hoon’s super-memory comes to good use in plenty of ways as a news anchor. He remembers his scripts, events from the past that he uses to interview people on his news show, and more.

But his inability to forget worries both his former psychiatrist Yoo Sung-Hyeok (Kim Chang-Wan) who is famous for studying memory for decades and his son, who is currently treating Jung-Hoon, Yoo Tae-Eun (Yoon Jong-Hoon). They believe that there is a limit to long-term memory and if one is unable to wash out memories adequately, the brain might be overwhelmed one day. This could be a big hint to what will become of Jung-Hoon in the future.

Even so, the first few episodes of the romantic comedy are as romantic as its title.

As a news anchor, Jung-Hoon interviews our female protagonist Yeo Ha-Jin (Mun Ka-Young) who is a famous actress. Most of the time, Jung-Hoon would leave his famous guests flustered by bringing up scandals or embarrassing things they had done. But this time, he is taken aback by his guest Ha-Jin instead, because she poked at his weakness unintentionally–by mentioning a quote that reminds him of his deceased ex-girlfriend, “I just want to live simply counting up to about 5 or 6.”

Since then, Jung-Hoon begins searching for clues from his memory that could be related to Ha-Jin. As he pieces things up, he finds out that Ha-Jin used to be besties with his ex-girlfriend, Lee Joo-Bin (Jung Seo-Yeon). Because of how much his ex-girlfriend used to talk about her and Jung-Hoon’s super-memory, he could recall and find traces of Ha-Jin from his past.

Through Joo-Bin, Jung-Hoon finds out what the two besties had done in the past and even what Ha-Jin is allergic to. He knew bits and pieces of Ha-Jin before even meeting her as he goes through his personal journey of finding her in his memory.

Our leads are connected through Joo-Bin, the ballerina who had fallen to her death from a great height, and went through a traumatic experience mourning for her death. They both found different ways to cope with their loss, however. Jung-Hoon continues to remember her from time to time while Ha-Jin has completely wiped her from her memory.

Both protagonists have easy-to-love personalities. Jung-Hoon is famously known as the “gentle tyrant” as he attacks his guests on his news show while being calm and nice, and Ha-Jin is a carefree and easygoing girl who doesn’t like her stuff to be too complicated.

The actress is also nice, but not really to the point of being a pushover.

When Ha-Jin’s co-star Go Yoo-Ra (Yura) demands that she gives her the outfit that was made for Ha-Jin, Ha-Jin said she could do it but comments (gets back at her by saying) that she doesn’t want to steal Yoo-Ra’s sponsorships by wearing her outfit like before.

Apart from their likable personalities, the charm of this drama is that it doesn’t stop at just being a romantic comedy. It has mystery and thrilling elements added to the mix–there is an obsessive stalker following Ha-Jin and the guessing game is enough to keep one wanting for more!
