“It’s Beautiful Now” is about three brothers who are up for a competition their grandfather suggested. That was, whoever gets married first, will be gifted with a 1 Million dollar home. It is nearly impossible to buy a house these days in Korea, so these brothers take this great opportunity and try to find their significant others.
The parents and grandfather couldn’t stand these brothers not being in a relationship, especially the first two older brothers. It is very important and very traditional in Korean households for children to get married ideally before they hit their 40s. The story consists of realistic and relatable elements that portrays the current generation who avoid dating and marriage and go on living their life on their own.
If you can somewhat relate, or are a fan of Yoon Shi Yoon, this should go into your watchlist.
Another popular K-Drama that deals with reality is “Bravo, My Life” starring Nam Sang Ji, Yang Byeong Yeol, Lee Si Kang, and Cha Min Jee, which is a KBS drama that depicts the obstacles of a single mother who fights the world.
This story is about a high school student (Seo Dong Hee played by Nam Sang Ji) who has never dated anyone and suddenly becomes a single mother willingly. The baby is actually her nephew that she is raising all by herself. This is a real eye-opening K-Drama that everyone needs to watch.
This drama is a bit different from the ones that were introduced to previously. This crime mystery melodrama “Gold Mask” stars Cha Ye Ryun, Lee Hyun Jin, Na Youn Hee, and Lee Hwi Hyang. “Gold Mask” is a tragic Cinderella story where Yoo Soo Yeon (Cha Ye Ryun) from an ordinary family falls in love with a conglomerate and is envied by others. But the reality is, she struggles from mistreatment from her in-laws.
This drama tells the story of finding the answer to life in a mad fight between three women due to tragedy caused by false desires and greed. In the first episode, we meet Yoo Soo Yeon (Cha Ye Ryun), who became a daughter-in-law to a chaebol family and is going through a difficult marriage. A fast-paced story and makjang elements definitely catch the viewers’ eyes. If you are a makjang fan, like I am, then you better add this to the watchlist!
Another dark, revengeful story starring Seo Ha Jun, Lee Young Eun, Jung Hun, Kang Byul, and Lee Seoung Yeon.
Ji Hwan (Seo Ha Jun) was born into a poor family, but he managed to pass the bar exam only with his effort for his mother. However, right before his exam result is released, his mother disappears out of the blue. From that day on, Ji Hwan goes the whole hog to find her, and Ju Hong is always there for him with support and advice. Ju Hong is a resident emergency medicine doctor who is simple, righteous, and all about loyalty. Unlike Ji Hwan, Tae Hyung was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, and he effortlessly becomes a successful prosecutor thanks to his pushy mother, who would do anything for her son.
