Premiering on May 11, “Azure Spring” is based on the webtoon of the same name by writer Jang Deok Hyeon. The drama follows Seo Anna, a former national youth swimmer whose dreams were shattered after an injury, and Yoon Deok Hyeon, a man trapped by the wounds of his past. Together, the two begin a new life as haenyeo and haenam divers in a seaside village, slowly finding healing, comfort, and growth through one another. Though the series consists of only six episodes, viewers can expect a deeply emotional and character-driven story packed into a tightly woven narrative.

Why You Should Watch “Azure Spring”

One of the drama’s biggest highlights is the pairing of Kang Sang Jun and Yeri. Kang Sang Jun takes on the role of Yoon Deok Hyeon, a former special forces soldier who lives isolated from society while carrying the rumor of being a “killer.” As the character slowly opens his heart over the course of life by the sea, Kang Sangjun is expected to showcase a softer, more emotionally layered side than in his previous roles. The actor shared that he was deeply drawn to the idea of a man finding new meaning in life through the ocean and its people.

Meanwhile, Yeri returns with a completely new transformation as Seo Anna, a former swimming prodigy who becomes a haenyeo after losing her dreams to injury. Viewers are especially looking forward to seeing how she captures Anna’s emotional scars, resilience, and gradual healing throughout the series.

The chemistry between the two leads has already become a major talking point following the script-reading sessions, where their natural emotional exchanges and stable performances reportedly stood out. Director Jeong Heon Su also revealed that the production filmed real underwater scenes in the ocean to create a more immersive and authentic viewing experience while prioritizing the actors’ safety throughout filming.

Another standout aspect of “Azure Spring” is its breathtaking setting. Filmed around the blue waters of Tongyeong and Hallyeohaesang National Park, the ocean becomes more than just a backdrop; it acts as a place of healing and emotional release for the characters. Combined with elements of local cuisine and seaside village life, the drama promises a visually comforting atmosphere that blends romance, youth, and regional charm together.
