In the drama “Angel’s Last Mission: Love,” the love between angels and humans is forbidden by God. They claim that the act defies God’s will, and the angel involved will be dissipated at once.

But why? If angels are all about love and kindness, why can’t an angel fall for someone wholeheartedly? As drama watchers with only basic knowledge of angels and the religion as a whole, we absolutely NEED these questions to be answered before we can enjoy it entirely!

After an extensive search on the internet, I guess I’ve found some answers here, using some of my own interpretations to satisfy our curiosity. Seeing that the male lead, Angel Kim Dan (Kim Myung-Soo) goes to church, we can safely assume that the drama takes reference from the Christian Bible.

What are angels?

Angels are spiritual beings who have their own will. As created beings, their knowledge isn’t exhaustive, they don’t know everything about what God does. But their knowledge far exceeds humans. They don’t have a physical form but they can assume a human form to appear in front of humans. Scriptures describe them as men when they do. Holy angels are known to be obedient to God’s commands without question.

The following is done assuming that angels do have the capability to love romantically.

Explanation 1 – Angels are created to carry out His plan.

Angels are created by God (Colossians 1:15-17), and their job is to carry out His will (Psalm 103:20). As God’s servants, they reveal His purpose and act accordingly to His commands.

Falling in love with a human would mean that they are no longer only God’s servant and they don’t serve only God anymore.

So, what if they receive a command from God which contradicts their own will after falling in love with a human? That could even lead to attempting to alter God’s plan if they love the human more than they worship God.

Explanation 2 – Love is selfish. (The drama is most probably going with this.)

Love is selfless, until one does something for a person and puts another at a disadvantage.

Everything in the universe was created by God (Colossians 1:16). If an angel only loves one person, it’d become a selfish thing. They would want the best and do things that only benefit that one person (which can put other humans at a disadvantage) when they are supposed to love everyone equally.

Explanation 3 – They have no… time?

Angels have plenty of roles assigned to them. They serve God (Psalm 103:20; Revelation 22:9), bring answers to prayer (Acts 12:5-10), care for the righteous in time of death (Luke 16:22), are instruments of God’s judgments (Revelation 7:1; 8:2), and more.

They would already be so busy with work, would they have enough time to love someone wholeheartedly…?

The Bible doesn’t really reveal much about angels, there really isn’t enough information about them to look at. To add, many different interpretations of the Bible can be easily found on the internet. Along with the Scriptures that some of us aren’t familiar with, that’s plenty of things to go through with little information to take in.

Hopefully, this additional information can help with making the watching experience more pleasant!
