Are you a big fan of cheesy love stories? The cringe-worthy dialogue and over-the-top public displays of affection are the special things that attract fans year after year. If you are a longtime supporter of a host of American hit shows like “Modern Family,” “Gilmore Girls,” and “Friends,” KOCOWA is here to introduce you to its K-Drama twin.

For fans of the classics “Who’s The Boss,” “Family Ties,” “The Nanny,” “The Sound of Music,” “Pride and Prejudice,” and  “Modern Family.”

This story mirrors the timeless romance between a governess (or tutor) and their wealthy employer. Since the last century, “Who’s The Boss,” “The Nanny, ” and “The Sound of Music” have effortlessly illustrated the picture-perfect story that can unravel when two people work together and ignore the burden of social classes. “Pride and Prejudice” sheds further light on social class distinction and even places an emphasis on learning from past mistakes. As “Young Lady and Gentleman” progresses, viewers are guaranteed to see the characters maturing and learning from past mistakes. While the K-Drama pair (Dan Dan and Young Guk) unexpectedly fall in love, there is so much life going on around them. The multiple family and friendship tales that walk the fine line between intense drama and relaxed comedy may remind viewers of the versatility of “Family Ties” and “Modern Family.” Every episode is nonstop entertainment!

Let’s Eat Something, Anna

It is an upbeat comedy with a dose of drama that compares this K-Drama to the unforgettable shows in Hollywood. Like the stars in both shows, Anna discovers something new about herself and starts to mature. It may be a short series, but the lessons in life and love that blogger Anna and home-shopping host Ji Yong learn lasts a lifetime. They turn their former relationship traumas into triumph!

The Heirs”

The rich and poor clash after they are introduced into the same social circles. “Gilmore Girls” and “Beverly Hills, 90210” are all about average teens attending school with the nation’s elite, and “Heirs” follows the same story with Cha Eun Sang and her childhood best friend attending the rich kids’ high school on a scholarship. Love blossoms for the Korean cast just like their American counterparts. Of course, the cheesy love triangle is worth the wait.

The Time We Were Not in Love

A solid friendship is the core of this wonderful romance. The main characters, Oh Ha Na and Choi Won, have maintained a 17-year-long platonic relationship, and they rely heavily on each other for support. This reminds viewers of the dependable relationships in “Cheers” and “Friends.” Like the stateside programs, our stars become aware of their strong romantic feelings for one another when rivals come into the picture. Of course, all of the shows mentioned make time for quality socializing.

Best Punch”

A large part of this K-Drama is full of love, laughs, surprises, and characters going after their dreams. Main character Hyun Jae is the strange new guy moving in with modern young people. I’m sure some of this story might remind many of “New Girl,” however, an eerie mystery shrouds the existence of veteran K-pop singer Hyun Jae. His tragic disappearance in the 1990s has strong “Riverdale” themes. In the K-Drama, he shockingly time travels and leaves the audiences flabbergasted about his true backstory until the finale.
