Just two months after his military discharge, Hallyu superstar Kim Soo-Hyun is ready to get back to work. But before he has his official comeback, he’ll make an appearance in the finale of the K-Drama “Hotel Del Luna” (set to air on Aug. 31). Production is being hush-hush, so we don’t know if his role will be that of a mortal or a ghost guest.

He treated the cast and crew to a coffee truck, much to the delight of the series stars IU and Yeo Jin-Goo.

If you’re wondering why he chose this project over the slew of other offers he has received, it’s because he has close ties to both leads.

Back when he was a young, unknown actor, Kim starred in the 2011 series “Dream High.” He became good friends with his cast members, including Suzy and IU.

Kim would be reunited with IU once again in the 2015 romantic comedy “The Producers,” where he played an awkward newbie television producer and she portrayed an idol as famous for her music as she was her icy temperament.

And prior to enlisting for his mandatory military duty, he shot the highly-hyped film, “Real.” As a personal favor to Kim, IU made a cameo appearance in the slick drama. Unfortunately, all the star power in the world couldn’t help the movie, which was both a critical and commercial flop.

If “Dream High” introduced Kim to K-Drama fans, then 2012’s “The Moon Embracing the Sun” solidified Kim’s status as one of Korea’s rising stars. Kim played the older version of the Crown Prince in this historical drama. And a teenage Yeo Jin-Goo played the child version.

This isn’t the first time Kim has made a cameo in a major production. Shortly after earning international fame in the 2013-2014 K-Drama “My Love From the Star,” he made a brief appearance at the end of the feature film “Miss Granny.” News outlets reported that fans screamed their delight at his surprise appearance.

Coincidentally, there is a tie-in between “Hotel Del Luna” and “My Love From the Star” as well. Oh Choong-Hwan, who was the producing director  “My Love From the Star,” is also at the helm of “Hotel Del Luna.”

Neither Kim or his management company, KeyEast, has released further details about his upcoming roles, other than to say that he was diligently reading scripts for both films and episodic television.

Kim’s upcoming cameo is a must-see, and one that will also drum up a lot of publicity before his official comeback. Welcome back, Kim Soo-Hyun! Your fans have missed you greatly!
