Hey, KOCONUTS! Are you ready to rumble?! Welcome to Battle of the Dramas! A new monthly poll/discussion designed to make you analyze the Korean actors you love, and their roles.
Every month, two actors will go head-to-head with their most popular dramas, and you will have the power to crown the winner by voting in the poll. Sometimes we’ll even pit an actor against themselves if they have many notable dramas.
The battles will be bloody, shocking, and suspenseful. Just kidding! They’ll be fun, and give us a chance to talk about our favorite actors’ best work, so please be respectful.
January is Song Joong Ki vs. Song Hye Kyo. They’ve both been very busy lately. Song Joong Ki has a British girlfriend who was apparently his Italian tutor for “Vincenzo”. And his recent drama “Reborn Rich” is now the second highest-rated drama in Korean cable history.
When it comes to his ex-wife Song Hye Kyo, Part One of her new drama “The Glory” has just been released to positive reviews and high viewership.
Both actors are incredibly talented and have tons of excellent dramas under their belt. Song Hye Kyo is part of the original Hallyu Wave that popularized Korean culture because of iconic dramas like “Autumn in My Heart” and “Full House“, while projects like “Arthdal Chronicles” and “Vincenzo” solidified Song Joong Ki as an international superstar.
Arguably, one of their most famous dramas is “Descendants of the Sun“, which they starred in together. They played a couple that captured our hearts, and ended up capturing each other’s hearts until their divorce in 2019.
Now it’s time for them to battle it out with some of their most popular dramas. Vote for the drama you prefer below. Vincenzo vs Encounter
I’m personally going to have to go with “Encounter” for this one! Superman’s weakness is Kryptonite and mine is Noona Romances.
Song Hye Kyo and Park Bo Gum’s characters were adorable together, and the drama was introspective. The OST was beautiful as well, and I can still listen to it without skipping a single song.
Reborn Rich vs The Glory (so far)
I really do love Song Joong Ki, but I’m going to have to vote for Song Hye Kyo again. I just finished “The Glory” a few days ago, and my butt still stings from constantly being on the edge of my seat!
I think I gravitated toward it more, because bullying is a universal issue, so it’s easier to put yourself in the main character’s shoes even if you weren’t bullied as severely. I also really like the ambiance, and the fact that we’re kind of getting a female antihero. That’s not something that happens often in K-drama Land (despite a few examples).
I can’t wait for Part Two! If it’s even half as good as Part One, I’ll be very happy.
