So, let me get this straight – are you telling me that Lee Ha Nee will be playing two roles in a romantic comedy with twice the chances to fall in love?
Because you have my attention.
“One the Woman,” the drama in question, is a romantic-comedy take on The Prince and the Pauper by Mark Twain, which is a tale of two identical-looking boys on the wrong side of the tracks who switch places.
I’m sure that’s where the similarities will end. However, I am intrigued to see where this story will take the hilarity, especially with Lee Ha Nee at the helm playing both personalities!
If you’ve seen “The Fiery Priest,” then you know what I’m talking about. Lee Ha Nee is an absolute gem with comedy.
Rounding out the cast is Lee Sang Yun (“V.I.P,” “Whisper,” “Angel Eyes”) and Lee Won Geun (“Cheer Up,” “Queen of Mystery”) playing the nice handsome chaebol and the nice handsome prosecutor, respectively. But there is a lot more to their personalities. Just look below to find out more!
(Methinks, I might just like this show.)
PREMISE
After a car accident gives her amnesia, a scrappy, blue-collar prosecutor with a Seoul law degree (yet sketchy integrity) is forced into the life of her doppelgänger – a wholesome, timid chaebol.
CHARACTERS
Jo Yun Joo – Played by Lee Ha Nee
Lee Ha Nee is handling two characters in this drama. The first is Jo Yun Joo, the daughter of a gangster who got accepted into Seoul University law school and passed the bar at the top of her class.
She now works as a prosecutor though her specialty is finding who is in power and following that line of ascension all the way to the top.
In other words, she inserts herself with the powerful, which has made her the ace prosecutor in her district.
One day, while on a case, she gets into a car accident, leading to amnesia and getting mistaken as the daughter of one of the wealthiest men in the country.
Now she has to live her life as a well-behaved chaebol daughter, but her real personality involves having a temper, ability, and brashness, which still comes out at times.
Gang Min Ah – Also Played by Lee Ha Nee
Lee Ha Nee also plays Gang Min Ah, the youngest daughter of one of the wealthiest chaebols in Korea and daughter-in-law to another rich, powerful chaebol.
Though her life looks perfect, Min Ah is more like Cinderella because she is the child born through an affair. Her parents picked her spouse in an arranged marriage to a competitor’s son, who ends up being a lovely person.
Everything looks wonderful; it seemed like her dreams would actually come true – until the competitor died suddenly and the shares in the company went to his brother.
Now Min Ah has to marry the brother’s son, a tabloid darling who is not such a gentleman. Plus, his family is horrible to her when they find out she is a child born out of wedlock.
One day, she disappears, and no one has any idea where she went..
(Also, how can the same woman look so different!)
Han Soong Wook – Played by Lee Sang Yun
The remarkable man who Min Ah was initially supposed to marry was Han Soong Wook. However, he lost his position as prince of the company when his father died under suspicious circumstances (you know that’s about to be a subplot!).
Not only does he lose his position, he also loses his lovely fiancé Mina. To forget about everything, he decides to go to America with his mother. But he comes back to Korea to find out the truth behind his father’s death.
To find the truth, he needs to ask his first love a question. However, she is a bit strange now. She says she has lost her memory, but maybe she lost her personality as well? Who is this bold, lively person?
Han Seung Woon – Played by Song Won Seok
Min Ah’s new spouse is Seung Woon, the new prince of a top company in Korea. Unlike Soong Wook, Seung Woon is always in the tabloids for one reason or another and has a devil-may-care attitude. Every woman is curious about him because he is handsome and ambitious.
However, Seung Woon does not love his wife Mina, and rather, he thinks she is like a plant dying slowly without water.
That all changes after her near-death experience. Her gaze is different, more potent somehow. She can perform judo throws for some reason, and she raises her voice in front of his parents, when she never did that before.
Who is this new woman? And…is he actually starting to fall for her?
(You know he is!)
But that is not all the men to go around.
Ahn Yoo June – Played by Lee Won Geun
We have one more man who is about to fall in love with Yun Ju – Prosecutor Ahn Yoo June.
Yoo June trained with Yun Ju as a prosecutor and was voted as the #1 son-in-law amongst the trainees. He is handsome, smart, and humble (the trifecta) and looks like he grew up in a loving environment. He makes it a point to take care of clumsy Yun Ju.
However, he cannot come out with his feelings because he knows Yun Ju will shut him down. So he behaves as a little brother that listens to his noona’s orders well.
After Yun Ju disappeared, he thought she had a plan and waited. But as her disappearance grows longer, he realizes he loves her.
Yes, everyone, yes!
I love a show that takes a character’s perceived notions about another character and completely flips it all around and upside down. I can just see the comedic moments when Yun Ju’s personality starts coming out as she acts as Min Ah (and I am here for that).
