All eyes on Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin, the on-screen duo turned real-life couple who is getting married TODAY, March 31 KST.

I know all of us haven’t moved on from their engagement news, but did you know that the two are more than the “Crash Landing On You” couple, and they are both part of Korea’s top echelon of actors and actresses for their flawless filmography and versatility?

The two are established Hallyu stars and a part of the highest-paid and most influential actors and actresses in South Korea. Let’s talk about our favorite K-Dramas and characters from Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin, which prove that they are two of the best actors and actresses of all time!

My Lovely Sam Soon

Hyun Bin’s breakthrough role is when he starred in the 2005 romantic comedy-drama “My Lovely Sam Soon” alongside Kim Sun A. The drama was a massive hit, not only in Korea, but also in other Asian countries, which made Hyun Bin a top star in his country.

Hyun Bin played the role of Jin Heon, an owner of an upscale French restaurant who proposes to Sam Soon, the female lead, that they enter into a dating contract!

Jin Heon is a charming guy with cute dimples and expressive eyes, so who wouldn’t say yes to his proposal? This role made him win a Top Excellence Award.

Friend, Our Legend

In 2009, Hyun Bin gained critical acclaim when he starred in the action crime romance drama “Friend, Our Legend,” which is the TV adaptation of Kwak Kyung Taek’s own 2001 box-office hit film “Friend.”

The drama follows the story of four childhood friends coming of age in the tough streets of Busan in the 1970s and 1980s.

Hyun Bin played the role of Han Dong Soo, a sociopath. In order to perfectly act this role, he reportedly watched Kwak Kyung Taek’s original film 20 to 30 times. His dedication is amazing!

Secret Garden

The drama that made everyone fall in love with Hyun Bin! The romantic fantasy drama “Secret Garden” is written by veteran writer Kim Eun Sook. The drama gained enormous popularity both domestically and internationally for its fashion, catchphrases, and music.

Hyun Bin played the character of Kim Joo Won, the good-looking but arrogant CEO of a high-end departmental store. Since the drama is well-loved in South Korea, his portrayal of this character created a “Hyun Bin Syndrome” throughout Korea! His name and face were plastered all over the country!

Thanks to his stellar performance in the drama, Hyun Bin won numerous awards for his acting. Did you know that Hyun Bin also sings? He sang the Official Soundtrack “That Man,” which peaked at number one in eight Korean music portals!

A little trivia: Did you know that “Secret Garden” is the one and only K-Drama that Son Ye Jin had a cameo appearance in? It’s really fate!

Hyde, Jekyll, Me

In 2015, Hyun Bin made a K-Drama comeback after 4 years with the romantic comedy series “Hyde, Jekyll, Me” alongside Han Ji Min.

In the drama inspired by the literary character, Hyun Bin plays Gu Seo Jin, a third-generation chaebol who runs the theme park Wonderland. He has dissociative identity disorder whose two personas both fall for the same woman.

This drama proved Hyun Bin’s acting versatility in the diverse way he brought to life each persona! Seo Jin is a cold, cynical, and ruthless character while his second persona is kind, gentle, and has a savior complex.

Spotlight

The Nation’s first love, Son Ye Jin, starred in so many K-Dramas, and one of them is the romantic comedy workplace drama “Spotlight” alongside Ji Jin Hee.

In the drama, Ye Jin plays Seo Woo Jin, an ambitious junior reporter who tries to expose the injustices of society. The drama portrays the world of journalism and questions what kind of reporters we need and what exactly journalism is.

Personal Taste

One of my favorite pairings is from the 2010 romantic comedy-drama “Personal Taste” with Son Ye Jin and Lee Min Ho as the main couple!

Son Ye Jin plays Park Kae In, a clumsy, slobbish aspiring furniture designer who ended up living together in a traditional Korean house with an architect (Lee Min Ho).

Don’t Look Back : The Legend of Orpheus

Son Ye Jin tries all different kinds of genres in a K-Drama. That’s why she’s loved by everyone because she always brings something new to the table. In 2013 she starred in the revenge melodrama “Don’t Look Back: The Legend of Orpheus” with Kim Nam Gil.

In the drama, Ye Jin plays the only daughter and heir to Gaya Hotel Group. She refuses to live life as an heiress and becomes a prosecutor to find out the truth about her former lover who died in a car accident.

“Something In The Rain”

The drama with eye-candy leads and amazing chemistry, “Something In The Rain” stars Son Ye Jin and Jung Hae In. This K-Drama had high viewership ratings during its run and achieved commercial popularity.

This hit K-Drama explores the relationship of two people as they go from being “just acquaintances” to “a genuine couple.” In the drama, Ye Jin plays a 35-year-old easygoing, single woman who develops romantic feelings towards her best friend’s younger brother Joon Hee.

The drama proved that Son Ye Jin is a chemistry queen, and you won’tt feel the age gap between her and Jung Hae In.

“Crash Landing On You”

Our favorite rom-com K-Drama of all time, “Crash Landing On You!” This drama was a huge success both domestically and internationally. It is the highest-rated tvN drama and the third highest-rated South Korean TV drama in cable television history!

In the drama, we saw how the successful CEO Yoon Se Ri ended up in North Korea after a paragliding incident. There she meets captain Ri Jeong Hyeok, and the rest is history where we saw one of the best romantic love stories ever!

I think we can all agree that Hyun Bin x Son Ye Jin is one of the best K-Drama pairings ever!

We really can’t deny how amazing and talented Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin are! I can’t wait to binge-watch all their shows here on KOCOWA!
